Starr appeals 'Bong Hits 4 Jesus' case

JUNEAU, Alaska - Former Whitewater special counsel Kenneth Starr petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to take up Alaska's "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" case, a dispute involving a high school student, a banner and a tough school policy.

Starr, who gained national prominence while investigating former President Clinton's Whitewater land deal and relationship with Monica Lewinsky, filed the petition Monday on behalf of the Juneau School District in response to a March ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The appeals court sided with a high school student who displayed a banner reading "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" during an Olympic torch relay in 2002. It ruled former Juneau-Douglas High School principal Deborah Morse violated former student Joseph Frederick's free speech rights.

The U.S. Supreme Court petition must receive a minimum of four of the nine justices' votes to be heard.

4. He must think he's got the votes

Starr is one of the biggest assholes on the planet, but he isn't stupid. He knows exactly how to play the system. If he's going ahead with this he must be pretty sure he can win.
I find the vision of law that he and the Scalias and Borks have (I call it Borkian logic) beneath contempt. It's the idea that law is like a cutesy little game you play, that it doesn't matter if justice is involved, it just matters if you win. This kind of Machiavellian view of the legal system is what could potentially destroy that system and with it the whole idea of equal justice. This man politicized his position as a special prosecutor just as Scalia, Rehnquist and Thomas politicized their positions in the election scandal of 2000 in order to pull a coup d'etat on our democratic system. If ever anyone deserved the label of traitors it is this cabal.

This appears to be a shakedown of Alaska's Marijuana Laws.
All Starr needed was the chance to get his foot in the door.

Alaskan residents are allowed to grow and have a legal amount of MJ in their possession.
Looks like, Starr is looking for language from the court to harass then prosecute local residents.

This dynamic would definitely destroy the serenity and familial culture of Alaskan residents.

If he wanted to hoist up his banner, he shouldn't have been at the school-sponsored part of the event.

I think Starr is full of it for the most part, but I don't think the school was wrong to issue consequences to this young man for his actions.

The district already lost this case in court. Starr is attempting to get the Supreme Court to review it. I guess at least part of the Constitution is still in place even in schools. And what this is really about is thought crime. The kid has ideas the school doesn't like.
