Tory MP says Hezbollah reminiscent of Nazi party in 1930s
:eyes:

OTTAWA - Conservative MP Jason Kenney said Tuesday that Hezbollah is no different than the German Nazi party in the 1930s and, by visiting Lebanon, opposition MPs lent “political legitimacy” to the organization.

Speaking at a news conference to react to comments made by Liberal MP Borys Wrzesnewskyj about taking Hezbollah off Canada’s list of terrorist organizations, Kenney said lessons need to be learned from history.

“There was another political party in the past which had democratic support, which provided social services, which played an important role in the political life of its country in Germany in the 1930s which was also dedicated to violence against the Jewish people,” said Kenney, parliamentary secretary to Prime Minister Stephen Harper and one of the Conservatives’ senior political strategists.

“The world was wrong to negotiate with that party then and it would be wrong to negotiate with Hezbollah today and I’m shocked that Mr. Wrzesnewskyj doesn’t understand that,” he said.

Kenney said the Liberal party shouldn’t try to backpedal from Wrzesnewskyj’s controversial comments.

3. So you are saying that they are not Shiite theocrats, funded by Iran,
using Iranian troops, ignoring UN mandates and exploiting the power vaccuum in southern Lebanon?

7. um, no, not according to the Israelis
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 03:09 PM by Ms. Clio
Anthony Cordesman, of the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC, who recently was invited to Israel and has already published a working draft of his paper, Preliminary Lessons of Israeli-Hezbollah War, says this on page 15:

One key point that should be mentioned more in passing than as a lesson, although it may be a warning about conspiracy theories, is that no serving Israeli official, intelligence officer, or other military officer felt that the Hezbollah acted under the direction of Iran or Syria.

(emphasis added)

As Helena Cobban points out, it's rather inexplicable why he doesn't think this "key point" should be mentioned only "in passing," but there it is.

12. I believe the poster claimed only that . .
. . they were funded by Iran. That does not imply that they get directions from Iran - although I suspect there are some strings attached to those weapons and money.

I have even read some analyses that suggest that Iran is a bit pissed off that Hizbullah wasted a large fraction of the missiles they were given and got so little in return for that. Not enough dead Israeli civilians or something.

4. Oh, baloney
There's plenty of room to legitimately criticize H'zbollah. I may not agree with the Tory MP, but H'zbollah is not some saintly organization.

Other than one was White, European, Christian and hellbent on taking over the world and the other one is Brown, Arab, Muslim and hellbent on keeping White European Christian types out of Lebanon.

6. 1930's Germany was one of the world's great military and economic powers
Hezbollah partially "controls" a small slice of a very minor middle eastern power. The comparison is preposterous.

8. Hezbollah isn't "dedidated to violence against the Jewish people"
It's dedicated to defending Lebanon against Israeli imperialism\occupation. There's a big difference.

19. I need hardly point out that Israel and "the Jewish people" are not
necessarily identical. Just yesterday, a group called "Jews Against the Occupation" committed civil disobedience at New Yorks Penn Station (and there was a similar action yesterday in San Francisco).

16. Jason Kenney ... any word on whether he's still a virgin?
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 07:01 PM by iverglas
Maybe he's my cousin. I've recently discovered that I have a gr-gr-grandmother Kenney. That lot (agricultural labourers in mid-19th century England: code for dirt poor) had a lot of kids without marrying first. Maybe Jason comes by being a bastard honestly.

http://latour999.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_latour999_archive.html

Jason Kenney:

This guy wins the Dan Quayle honorary award for the dumbest person in Parliament. And he had to face some stiff competition from the likes of Harper, Stronach and Rob Anders. First, he says that the "traditional definition of marraige" (a favorite euphimism in the Conservative Party) doens't discriminate because homosexuals can still marry, and points to Libby Davies and Svend Robinson, two openly gay NDP MPs. The problem is that Libby Davies was never married, and it doesn't take a marriage expert to figure out why Svend's marraige failed. Then, when Don Boudria notes that a Christian group of cybersquatters nabbed a domain name in his name to attack his position on same-sex marriage, he says that Boudria is too ignorant to register his own domain first. Try typing in www.jasonkenney.org and see what you get. Ah, hoisted by your own petard (and a little help from Rick Mercer). And this guy wants to be leader of the Conseravtive Party? Well, I guess another far right Reform/Alliance Albertan without a brain is just what they need...if this is the best they got, the Liberals will rule Canada forever.
Uh oh. A third of the electorate seems to have been stupider than anyone could have predicted.

Sadly, Rick seems to have abandoned jasonkenney.org (which originally led to the Marxist Leninists):

http://rickmercer.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_rickmercer_archive.html

In honour of Pride celebrations this weekend www.JasonKenney.org now points to Egale Canada. No word yet on whether Jason will be marching but let me take this oppourtunity to say "Happy Pride Jason". My Canada includes Jason in a boa surrounded by a dozen balloons and the Jason Kenney dancers vying for a best float prize.

edit: just so's the furriners knows who we's talkin about.
