WP: For GOP, Bad Gets Worse in Northeast

Incumbents Shy From Party and President

Monday, August 14, 2006; A01

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. -- When it comes to President Bush and the Republican Congress, Rep. Jim Gerlach says voters in his suburban Philadelphia district are in a "sour mood."

(snip)

"It is a combination of things, from the war in Iraq to gas prices to what they are experiencing in their local areas," Gerlach said of the surly electorate whose decision he will know on Nov. 7.

The Iraq war and Bush's low approval ratings have created trouble for Republicans in all regions. But nowhere is the GOP brand more scuffed than in the Northeast, where this year's circumstances are combining with long-term trends to endanger numerous incumbents.

(snip)

Republican losses in the region could echo well beyond the 2006 campaign. Because much of the region is tilting Democratic, history suggests Republicans would find it hard to recapture seats once lost.

3. Our 3 Republican House members in CT are all vulnerable
Chris Shays, Nancy Johnson & Rob Simmons.

Diane Farrell, Joe Courtney and Chris Murphy are the 3 blue challengers.

15. The next 9-11 would backfire big time
because the majority of people now know better.

Back in 2001, we still had no idea how bad Bush was going to be and the crap he was going to drag this country through.

Keep in mind, these assholes couldn't even pull off planting WMD's in Iraq. They have no more 9-11's.

13. Label each republicans as a BUSH republican
I have started to label each republican running for reelection in Iowa as a BUSH republican. From Jim Nussle to rubber stamp Tom Lathem, if they have supported Bush in the past then they are nothing more than Bush republicans!

14. It's even extending as far down as VA in some cases!!
Jo Anne Davis (GOP, congress, VA 1st dist.) came out over the weekend calling for the resignation of Rumsfeld! Her district is heavily military, dependably conservative. Hmmmm.

Even went so far as to point out that Jo Anne was agreeing with Hillary on the issue!

20. Good news! Where is the first district? Tidewater or DC area?
I love how "moderate" some of these repubs get during election years.

Then they turn back into RW rubber stamps for BushCo once the election is over.

21. I **think** its the district that runs between Tidewater and Nova and
includes the lower Eastern Shore. The largest part of it would be the area immediately south of the Potomac.

Again .... I ***think*** this is right; but I'm not certain.

24. Right - northern part includes Stafford, Spotsylvania and Fburg.
Then runs down thru the Northern neck all the way to Gloucester. It doesn't include any of the Hampton Roads area though.

Not only will we take out Santorum, but I'm thinking at least 3 congressional representatives (PA-06,07 AND 08 - the Philly Burbs).

25. Unfortunately, the "worse" hasn't affected NJ's Scott Garrett
Moron right-wing Congressman from NJ's 5th district is smart enough to understand the key to winning re-election in NJ: Don't be too visible in the news, don't make headlines, and your job is safe.

27. I guess I'm cynical
but it's really something to see Republicans march in lock-step with Bush on every issue, and only have pangs of conscience when their devotion to him jeopardizes their chances for reelection. This has been a Congress notorious for being the Rubber Stamp Congress, and only now are they trying to act as if they are capable of thinking, and acting in the best interests of the citizens they are supposed to serve. Such hypocricy...but, then again, they are Republicans, what else should we expect?
