AP: Bush to Take Shortest Summer Vacation Yet
Bush to Take Shortest Summer Vacation Yet

By NEDRA PICKLER

WASHINGTON Aug 3, 2006 (AP) Heading for his Texas ranch, President Bush will
take his shortest summer vacation yet with turmoil in the Middle East and an
uncertain future for his Republican Party in fall elections.

Bush leaves Washington on Thursday, but will return nine days later to tend to the
problems abroad and at home that are weighing on his presidency. White House
spokesman Tony Snow said the president will travel frequently during August a
contrast to previous summers when he has spent nearly the entire month on his ranch.

The White House fought the image that the president would be tuned out even
temporarily to problems in the Middle East, where there was no end in sight to fighting
between Israel and Lebanon-based Hezbollah militants. Secretary of State Condoleezza
Rice was going to the ranch during his first weekend in Texas. First lady Laura Bush
was heading to the ranch Friday night.

"My guess is he's going to be working pretty hard," Snow said. "So this is not
something where he's simply going to be gallivanting and ignoring the realities
of the situation."

Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 04:42 AM by w4rma
He's too worried about losing power to take the rest of the month off again?

2. "will return NINE days later to tend to the problems"
the difference is that Bill Clinton and probably any other Democrat (and maybe even other Republicans) would not have gone on vacation at all with the shit that is going on. at most they would probably go away but continue working from the other location. such as Bill Clinton often did . i remember reading how Clinton wasn't able to handle vacations and being away from work. you can see this now with how he continued working even with the heart surgery and he was told to take it easy.

but the truth is, the Chimpanzee wouldn't do much even if he didn't go away on vacation. we know who is most likely in control and deciding what to do.

33. I am sure
Cindy Sheehan might have something to do with that. She's bought 5 acres in Crawford, Tx. where the Shrub lives.

Snow says he's "going to be working pretty hard!" Do you really think that slimey Mr. Snow would lie?

9. Are you hinting at retirement in Florida? If you are, you could be right!
His slimey brother's there, and his parents seem to have complete control of one of the islands in the Keys.

That stupid "ranch" idea undoubtedly is only his backdrop for his bad "cowboy" imitation, cynically developed to con his near-idiot supporters in the right-wing into thinking him honest, hard-working, and brave, just like their favorite movie guys.

43. Which Island is that???? None of the bush's are well liked in the
Keys and junior did not take this county in the elections. If you are referring to Ocean Reef at the north end of Key Largo, that is not even considered as part of the Keys. It is a gated community for the very wealthy and some wannabees. No decent Keys conch even wants to be associated with that mess. They come into town and demand first rate treatment in all the stores and restaurants. They definitely have the "Do you know who I am?" attitude. Back after Hurricane Andrew hit, George Senior choppered down to check on his "buds" at the Reef, but neglected to stop by poor devastated Homestead. That caused a near riot, and many (including myself) think that is what eventually got him beat by Clinton in the election.

32. You gotta wonder . . .
Didn't anyone ever invite her to a Mary Kay party?

With all their money, this woman could have taken at least MINIMAL care of her appearance. She is in the public eye. Why would she let herself get this way? What is her deep attitude toward herself, her husband, the public, etc.?

Beauty, or more appropriately, "appearance," is more than skin deep: It is a reflection of how we feel about ourselves and how we wish to be perceived by those around us.

And he's tired of pretending to be Ronald Reagan on a "ranch" because Karl told him he will not need it anymore for a backdrop since he's never going to run again.

24. I'll bet he's disenchanted with the whole ranch thing, anyway.
He was never an outdoor kind of guy, and it's sure to be wearing thin by now. Laura has no intentions of spending her retirement there. Once they're out of office and living in a tony Dallas neighborhood, they'll never go near the place again. They'll either sell or pawn it off on the government as a national historic site.

27. How could he ever give up the family ranch? The memories...
Junior's supporters seem to think the little man actually grew up in Crawford. Visions of Junior as a young boy wrangling pigs in the mud, bust'n wild bronc piglets, branding and gelding porkers with a smirk on his face, riding herd with his favorite hog, while Ma Babs churned butter and milked the chickens. And once a week, the future pResident would ride Elmer into town to meet young Laura at the Saturday night dance.

How could they ever sell the family ranch? I mean, it's been in the family since the 2000 Presidential campaign!

That's nice. So if someone reads him a memo that says "Bin Laded Determined to Strike in the US," he isn't just going to say "OK you covered your ass" and go fishing.

See, he really is growing into the job.

28. Well, isn't that big of him?
"My guess is he's going to be working pretty hard" avoiding Cindy Sheehan, most likely.

I remember presidents who recognized their obligations during troubled times, and didn't feel it necessary to bug out on vacation then. Hell, I've seen general managers at radio stations where I worked who'd be in there, sleeves rolled up, working with the rest of us during crunch-time rather than being a no-show because it was vacation time. Fucking arrogant prick! And he's not "simply going to be gallivanting" but he will be traveling frequently, 'eh? The poster upthread who noted this as likely campaigning for fellow republi-CONS in trouble called this one correctly. And I'm sure with his girlfriend contradicta coming to spend the weekend, laura is heading down there fast-fast-fast.

It's hard work having your elbow pressed firmly on the pulse of Amerika. He needs his R&R. Maybe he can snuggle in front of the campfire with Eva (I mean Laura, my bad) and Dick and have a rousing reading of The Pet Goat. That book takes your mind off all your troubles.

I read the Bush family bunkers at that part of the grove called the "Hillbilly Camp." So, is he going to join the rest of his greedy compatriots there and don hooded robes, get drunk and piss in the woods, and burn a human effigy to the great owl? Did I mention I have a hard time believing this bunch are Christian?
