Mounties want to delay review of man's death (drank beer in public)
Mr. Bush was shot at the local RCMP detachment after he was detained for having an open beer in public.

The Bush family says it has been told virtually nothing by the RCMP about what happened the night of Oct. 29, other than that there was a scuffle at the station between Mr. Bush and Constable Paul Koester, the arresting officer. Minutes later, Mr. Bush lay dead with a bullet in the back of his head.

2. it's amazing how drunks can contort themselves
I mean surely this is suicide. No mounty would ever shoot a man in the back of the head. Drunk man grabbed the gun from the officer twisted it around behind his own head.....well, guess the sarcasams not really the right way to discuse this.
I'm sorry for the family. It's hard to get reminded that life is cheap for the masses.

3. This whole thing makes the RCs look so bad.
They've had six members shot to death in the last fifteen months or so, and very public funerals, with front-page shots of bawling officers in full dress uniform - they should be the most beloved and sympathized-with police force in the world. And they pull this. It's like they want to make their job harder for themselves than it already is, PR-wise.

I've read lots about this story, and can't see any excuse for the lack of disclosure to the (ahem) Bush family.

4. Could be they are... BAD...
You said it yourself...PR-wise

It's a national police force that hasn't changed appreciably since the 19th century and is inapproriate for a modern democratic society.

The only countries that tend to have NATIONAL police forces these days are former dictatorial colonies...oh wait a minute! DOH!!

"most beloved and sympathized-with police force in the world" -- and yet virtually hated in most of the communities they patrol in western Canada...they don't tell us that part.

6. Out of curiosity...
How many national police forces were marketed by Disney?

Mountie no longer Disney's

OTTAWA - The characteristic red-coated Mountie image belongs once more to the RCMP after the police force decided not to renew its five-year contract with the Walt Disney Company.

Control of the trademarks had been given over to Disney when the RCMP hired the company to promote their image and protect them from being abused in the commercial marketplace.

CBC

One stop shopping

The guys with the radar guns writing tickets in your community are the same guys chasing international terrorists as well...they operate at all three levels and then some!! Whether they are protecting the community or the national image of the RCMP, in most cases, one can only speculate.

8. Stop getting my hopes up
Although that DOES seem a likely way that Smirky will eventually exit this plane of existence and finally get out of our lives.
