Senior British MP calls for halt on weapons exports to Israel

The leader of Britain's opposition Liberal Democrats on Monday asked Prime Minister Tony Blair to suspend arms exports to Israel after fighting that has killed hundreds of civilians.

In a letter, Menzies Campbell urged Blair to halt the trade following the Israeli offensive against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, launched after two soldiers were kidnapped in a cross-border raid earlier this month. Israel retaliated with punishing airstrikes on Lebanon's airport, ports and roads - while Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel.

"In light of disproportionate military action by Israel in Lebanon and Gaza, the U.K. government must suspend any further arms exports to Israel," Campbell wrote.

wants asap.

We don't know how many millions of tons have already been put on the pipeline.
Nothing the size of government gets done overnight (unless it's some hare-brained republican scheme to fly everyone back to Washington on a fool's errand) so that will give Israel a week or so before anything has a chance at moving.
