Blagojevich Sends $5 Million To Stem Cell Research
Move Comes One Day After Bush Veto Of Federal Funding Hike

(AP) SPRINGFIELD, Ill. Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Thursday again used his executive power to spend millions of state dollars on stem cell research despite repeated objections from state legislators.

The governor announced he's directing $5 million to the research from within the current state budget. The money will come from a spending line used for administrative expenses within the state Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Blagojevich said.

...

Blagojevich says he won't let a lack of legislative support stop him.

"It would be wrong to ask sick and injured people and their loved ones to wait for the tides in Springfield and Washington to change before research into potentially lifesaving cures can move forward," Blagojevich said in a statement. "Investing in research that can save lives and prevent serious illnesses is more than a sound public health strategy, it's our moral obligation."

Someone is going to get hugely wealthy off the Bush's veto. Makes me wonder if thats why he vetoed it in the first place

4. Between this and the healthcare for all children, Blagojevich is looking
pretty good for elections.

Of course, the Republicans will say "UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE" and "MURDERING BABIES"

5. Illinois Gov. Funds Stem Cell Research
http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/nation/wire/sns-ap-illinois-stem-cell-research,0,2597676.story?coll=sns-ap-nation-headlines

Illinois' governor announced Thursday he was diverting $5 million from the state budget for stem cell research, despite repeated objections from state legislators.

The move came a day after President Bush vetoed federal legislation that would have expanded funding for embryonic stem cell research.

Illinois lawmakers have previously voted down stem cell funding over ideological differences, and this spring they didn't take up the governor's proposal for $100 million in funding over five years.

"Investing in research that can save lives and prevent serious illnesses is more than a sound public health strategy, it's our moral obligation," Gov. Rod Blagojevich, a Democrat, said in a statement Thursday.

8. He has done some good things
for this state; HOWEVER, he has turned a blind eye to the corruption he vowed to stop. Department of Corrections for one. I PERSONALLY had a top aide for Quinn call me AT MY HOME and threaten me regarding a DOC issue. When reported, absolutely nothing was done.

Rod does not do anything because of a good heart, only because he wants a "good" vote.
