Dixie Chick Stirs War Pot Again
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/07/22/entertainment/main564495.shtml

(AP) Dixie Chicks' singer Natalie Maines, whose criticism of President Bush last spring led to boycotts of the group's music, said Friday that Americans were "misled" about the war in Iraq.

"I think people were misled, and I think people are fighting a war that they didn't know they were going to be fighting," Maines said in a broadcast interview. "And I think they were misled by people who should have been asking questions and weren't."

1. at this point i think they've realized it's a powerful tactic to keep them
in the press. probably didn't hurt their sales after all. just drew a lot of attention and caused their real fans to rally in defense... any press is good press, as they say.

7. LOL!!!!.......These gals have a great conscience and courage!!!
They should run for office!!!

I remember seeing a large 5 story poster of them on a side of
a hotel in Nashville at their first incident against the war.

It was one of the largest posters I've ever seen.

They deserve the medal of honor in this great land of "democracy"

LOL!!!!

4. Why should this be self-serving?
Obviously with Bush allegedly being from Texas, they probably know his ways better than most.

5. And just maybe
And just maybe they may swing some of those with the Confederate flags over to our side. The Dixie Chicks rock. Go, girls, go.

6. I saw that interview. Was sad to see them so afraid to say what they
wanted. They would constantly hesitate and look at each other before speaking. Lots of "nervous" laughter. I was glad they spoke their mind, but you could tell they were fishing for just the right words to use.
I can understand their being worried about their careers, but if it was me, I'd say career be damned and just say what's on my mind. But, that's just me. Won't hold it against them.

9. I have never been a fan,
I've never been a country music fan, but I am heartened that the Dixie Chicks speak with the courage (and it does take a lot these days) of their convictions. I will now and forever be a Chicks fan.

the Chicks. And I will buy more.

10. God I love the Dixie Chicks. I love Bluegrass music and these gals are #1
They were on the Today show this morning singing a song that went something like - what's wrong with saying what you feel in your heart - I took at as a slap back at Clear Channel and the hypocritical Bill of Rights thumpers who chastized them for speaking the truth. You go girls!

11. This is one hell of a woman! And a great artist, too.
I was astonished when I bought their "Landslide" album and listened to the lyrics. They aren't quite Dylanesque, but they are cogent, meaningful, story lyrics laced with contemporary commentary.

These are some fine, courageous, talented young women.

12. I haven't had a chance to listen the the Landslide album,
but the title song "Landslide" was written by Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. My daughter really likes the Chicks, she has all of their CD's.
