Iraq's U.S. Governor on Weeklong Trip to Washington (un-announced)
BAGHDAD (Reuters)

Paul Bremer, the U.S. governor of Iraq, has left the country on a weeklong trip to Washington, aides said Sunday.

A spokeswoman for the U.S.-led civil administration in Iraq said Bremer had left Baghdad Friday for talks with U.S. officials. His departure was not announced in advance.

Many Iraqis have complained that Bremer's administration has not moved fast enough to restore basic services and security and to hasten the transition to a democratic Iraqi government. U.S. forces in Iraq are facing daily guerrilla attacks and there have been regular anti-U.S. protests. ---
