WP/AP: Rove: Bush Would Veto Stem-Cell Bill
Rove: Bush Would Veto Stem-Cell Bill
The Associated Press
Tuesday, July 11, 2006

DENVER -- President Bush will probably issue his first veto if the Senate approves a bill to expand federal funding of embryonic stem-cell research, White House aide Karl Rove told a newspaper's editorial board.

"The president is emphatic about this," Rove said in the meeting Monday, according to a story posted on the Denver Post's Web site.

The House has already passed the stem cell legislation, co-sponsored by Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colo., and Rep. Mike Castle, R-Del.

Rove said he believes the legislation will pass the Senate with more than 60 votes sometime this month _ "and as a result the president would, as he has previously said emphatically, veto the Castle bill."

The Bush administration has allowed federal funding only for existing lines of embryonic stem cells. Researchers and patients' groups say that policy hinders vital research....

1. One of the few advantages to being a lame duck president...
you can veto whatever you want.

In fact, the GOP can use this to their advantage, voting for the bill knowing that Bush will veto it, and then saying, "Hey, we tried," even though they would have voted against the bill if it had any chance of becoming law.

Y A W N

He doesn't *need* to veto anything when he signs those *neat signing statements.* Just feeding the base, as it were.....

Does this look like somebody who is worried about what Congress might do?

Bush’s contention that he can ignore provisions of the Patriot Act, whose renewal he ushered last month, has drawn scrutiny. (Jim Young/ Reuters)

3. Bring it on.
All though, I'm sure he'll crap out of his bullshit threats. It's not like he's ever backed up any of his smoke blowing veto threats with an actual veto before.

5. Personally, I don't think Chimp has the balls to veto anything.
