Spin city in Baghdad
Edited on Mon Nov-24-03 08:40 AM by dArKeR
Baghdad - As United States forces battle a deepening guerrilla insurgency on the ground in Iraq, they are also waging a major media offensive to try to cast the contested occupation in a more positive light.

The media blitz coincides with a sharp rise in attacks by guerrillas against American interests and comes amid signs that both US troops and the American-led civilian administration are losing the battle for the hearts and minds of Iraqis.

Last week, the military unveiled a new spokesperson for US forces in the country, Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt, a higher-ranking officer with more media experience than those who have until now been the public face of the occupation.

That followed a redesigning of the podium from which news conferences are held, with two large flat-screen monitors now installed to carry slick Powerpoint presentations the military is using to show off operations and tout successes.

This is a sick story. All of our leaders are sick people. All of our media should be imprisoned.

General Puke Face speaking in response to the 2 American children who had their throats slit: the attacks are 'irrelevant'.

What's sicker, the General saying this or the General knowing the children's families would see him say it on CNN?

1. "contested occupation!?" - Spin City in this THIS ARTICLE
This sounds more like an incomplete war to me...and maybe to the guys and gals over there risking their lives.

"Dan Senor, the senior spokesperson for the Anglo-American forces, has on several occasions expressed his frustration that successes achieved in the reconstruction process are not being reported.

"Some 14 000 projects have been completed since the end of major combat, that's around 100 projects every day," he told reporters at a recent briefing. "Yet it hardly gets mentioned.""

Cry me a river, Mr. Senor... Fixing stuff that we illegally invaded and broke really doesn't thrill me, especially when the beneficiaries of our invasion and Mr. Fixit Nation Building are killing and wounding U.S. troops every damn day.

3. Fears Iraqi Insurgency Spreading - CBS
U.S. troops opened fire after an explosion near a military convoy Monday in Mosul, as fears grew that the anti-coalition insurgency was spreading north a day after two American soldiers were savagely beaten and killed in the same city.

Near the northern city of Kirkuk, an oil pipeline was on fire Monday. Adel al-Qazzaz, manager of the Northern Oil Company, said he believed sabotage was to blame. Insurgents have repeatedly targeted pipelines, and sabotage of oil infrastructure has become a major problem for the U.S.-run coalition.

In the Mosul attack, gunmen activated a roadside bomb and opened fire on the convoy, injuring a soldier, the military said.

Local residents said U.S. troops immediately cordoned the area in Hay al-Dobat neighborhood. "I heard a strong explosion saw the Americans randomly shooting in all directions," said Omar Hamed, a witness.
