Saddam Thinks U.S. Will Beg for His Help

AMMAN, Jordan - Saddam Hussein believes the United States will have to seek his help to quell the bloody insurgency in Iraq and open the way for U.S. forces to withdraw, his chief lawyer said Sunday.

Khalil al-Dulaimi argued in an interview with The Associated Press that the former leader is the key to returning stability to Iraq.

"He's their last resort. They're going to knock at his door eventually," the lawyer said. Saddam is "the only person who can stop the resistance against the U.S. troops."

There is no indication U.S. officials have considered seeking his help. While Saddam's once dominant fellow Sunni Arabs are the backbone of the insurgency, the Shiite Muslim majority and Kurds repressed by his regime would be enflamed by his presence.

1. Well, think about it -
when he was in charge, there was none of this "insurgency" business going on, and few fewer Iraqis were murdered.

All in all, I'd say he did a better job with the country than Fuckface is doing.

I'd vote for him over Fuckface.

10. Screw Saddam, and anyone like him.
Saddam should rot in jail for the rest of his life, just as Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld should.

Sadly, unless the Iraqis get extremely lucky, they're going to wind up with another dictator or a theocracy -- after years of civil war.

4. They really should just put him back and get the hell out.
Hussein is an asshole of the highest order but he really is the only one who can control the country. Obviously we should have never gone in there to begin with.

11. No way to justify the death and injury of thousands of US soldiers
Won't happen. Bush always throws the baby out with the bathwater, then shatters the bathtub.

5. I think he's been watching Bill Maher reruns!
That was Maher's assertion--give him back the keys and say "Never mind!"

Seriously, why would BushCo go to him?? They'd put their OWN asshole in charge, someone who's just as bloodthirsty, but more easy to control.

Looks like his time in prison has impaired his judgment...or maybe he's just grasping at straws.

7. Well wasn't it the US that put Sadam in power in the first place?
Sadams only problem was he thought he was a the leader of Iraq and forgot who fed him so he got spanked. With the twisted logic of bushco, they'll have the american public agreeing that Sadam has been rehabilatated and can now be trusted to run a free Iraq with their helping hand. Nothing surprises me, take the craziest bushco plan and its probably the right plan after the spinnings done.

8. It seems doubtful, but you never know
I think it is the reason he wasn't killed, the way his sons were or Zarqawi was (note, I am not saying he had anything in common with Zarqawi other than resisting the U.S.).

14. It'll never happen

The Bushies are classic boneheaded proto-males; they NEVER admit a mistake. To seek his help would be tantamount to an admission of failure, and their macho primitiveness would never even consider such a thing. They're more likely to stop and ask for directions when lost, and even that's an impossibility.

They've got their tidy plan in the works: bring him up on charges that don't involve the United States, convict him and execute him before he ever has a chance to say anything about our collusion in open court. It'll work just fine. If things get messy, he can simply have an accident or a rapidly progressing terminal condition.

Just once it'd be nice to think that some Cliff Baxter or other actually left a sealed envelope somewhere which was to be opened in case of his death, but these people are strutting ubermales and they just don't tend to do such things. Besides, "he tried to kill my dad."

Junior and his mob are pissy and vindictive little creeps and they don't like to give their opponents the slightest chance.

26. Even though Saddam is on trial for his life in a kangaroo court. . .
methinks these days he's laughing himself to sleep knowing he did something no other strongman/dictator has managed to do to our nation. He succeeded in dragging us down to his level.

27. So true, DinahMoeHum.
Saddam AND Osama both played bush like a violin. They might be the 'bad guys' but they're both a hundred times more savvy than bush & the people surrounding him.
