retired constituents knowing that they are voting funds for the Trojan Horse that will destroy Medicare. The geezers only have one thing to do all day long on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. And it isn't wash day.

31. They take the AARP VOTE seriously
more seriously than the president of the organization. They all know about members burning their cards and it's serious to them. AARP has a massive voter turnout - 85% in my area. People take and return calls not just to the organization, but to members. It's voting clout. These truly are people who are hiring and firing these legislators. They take them seriously.

is screwed. At least the leadership. They've sold out seniors and they won't recover from this for many years, if ever. Their conflict of interest story is spreading like the plague. The membership losses will decimate the organization.

Go to www.c-span.org

32. True
Though as a "Bush defeat", while it has an effect that effect will be short-lived IMHO. Bad legislation lives forever, stalking you, haunting you, calling you at all hours of the night ;-)

No matter. Like you, I am feeling good over this one. Even if they pass it it cuts their throats and it'll be gutted before it does too much damage.

Edited on Sat Nov-22-03 04:36 AM by JudiLyn
pointed out that it's a crime that the Republicans kept the vote on this bill and the debate out until it was late, late, late at night, and almost ALL of the country would be sleeping.

On edit:

Anyone conscious who would have heard the speeches from the Democrats, and the Republicans wouldn't have to be a rocket scientist to see exactly what kind of scam they're running.

Hope there's a transcript available soon. It will have some intensely searing remarks from the Democrats, and truly lame, sly, pompous, and utterly deceptive yammering from the Republicans. As several of the Democrats said, SHAME, SHAME, SHAME.

87. They just announced on CBS radio news that the Republicans won
Said the bill is "loaded with give-aways for drug companies."

Oh, really?

Jeez, if ONLY this could be reversed.

91. At least it still has to make it past the Senate
It depends now on how much spine the Dems choose to show there and how quickly they want to go home for Thanksgiving.

95. What an awful roller coaster!
I just got up and read the whole thread. It sounded just like a really bad election night, where you eat breakfast not sure if you have a hangover or are still drunk.

The silver lining is that there are several Republicans who for one reason or anther had courage, if only for a moment. This means some of them will have guilt for failing the country; maybe next time they will do what is right.

Maybe Delay’s pesticide use will catch up with him, I know that there are roaches which have become tolerant of pesticides and can survive even the highest concentrations of them. Delay looks like he is in that strain, we can hope anyway.

101. The conservatives held out
Because they thought the bill was too nice to the American people and didn't do enough to emasculate Medicare, I thought.

I went to bed at 5:15. I knew I'd wake up to a loss.

The Democrats who betrayed us need to feel it.

98. 2 votes switched due to call from Bu**sh**
According to a guy from National Journal on C-SPAN, the two Republican votes that switched from nay to yea were a freshman Franks (?) from Arizona and a 2-3 termer Otter (?) from Idaho who held out until the last minute. They switched after receiving a personal call from the prez.
