WASHINGTON (Reuters) - At a gala dinner on Monday, Republicans raised a whopping
$27 million for candidates in the November midterm election in a bid to fend off
a strong challenge by Democrats for control of the U.S. Congress.

President George W. Bush was the headliner at the 2006 President's Dinner gala,
typically one of the biggest fund-raising events of the election cycle.

"We're going to keep the House and we're going to keep the Senate thanks to you all,"
Bush told a crowd of about 6,000 people at the Washington convention center.

Republicans say the higher numbers reflect the number of competitive races this year.

1. I'm sure those taxcuts are tithed.
Bet the top 5% get a friendly reminder from the RNC not to forget who got them their taxcut. Perhaps a subtle hint about the NSA or IRS audits would also motivate the faithful...

2. I saw this on CSpan
W said the republicans can feed the poor, give homes to the homeless, give optimism to the future. I about upchucked.

What a liar. What a damn liar...to put it very mildly. He dismantles programs for the needy to service the rich, and he comes up with this garbage.

I can see clearly why the world hates him and his policies so badly.

5. Well, of course they CAN do those things, but they aren't going to.
They wouldn't give a dime unless they were assured it would come back into their own pockets increased by a thousand fold.

3. article didn't mention
if this was a private-closed-door-by-invitation-only fund raiser. It had been previously mentioned the other 39 fundraisers (this year) were not open to the general public and no big photo ops of bush standing with the candidate.

4. They seem to raise THEIR Money So Easily...
...and they seem to spend the tax payers money just as easily. Sadly both ways its to spend only on THEIR causes. The tax payer, the averaeg citizen is always forgotten in the mix.
