That's their pay, not yours or mine.
http://www.sltrib.com/utah/ci_3934380WASHINGTON - Are you getting a $3,300 pay raise?
Congress will.
Despite Rep. Jim Matheson's annual argument to have a vote on whether Congress should get a 2 percent pay raise, House members sided with the automatic hike during a debate over a spending bill for several departments. It's the sixth time Matheson, Utah's only Democratic House member, has tried to get a vote on the pay raise and the sixth time he's lost.
"We continue to swim in a pool of red ink," Matheson said on the House floor Tuesday. "I don't think it's appropriate to have this . . . raise go through without an up or down vote."
House members disagreed 249 to 167 in a procedural vote that avoids a debate over pay. Republican Reps. Rob Bishop and Chris Cannon voted to move forward, and Matheson voted against the rule.

Gee, I think if I were in a business where we did nothing but accumulate record debt, can't provide services during a catastrophe in one of our jewel cities, take bribes from lobbyist, etc....the last thing I would do is get a raise.
If the Repukes want to run on Dems raising taxes, Dems should run on Repukes raising their salaries. In fact, if I were the Dems, one of the things I would propose would be to restore the tax rate on the wealthy 5% to the Pre-Chimpy rate and reduce Congressional salaries by 10%. They surely haven't earned it. Why isn't there a Dem that is offering a bill to tie Congressional Pay to performance (hey, they want to do it with teachers). Under my proposal, Congress would get reduction in pay each year until the budget is balanced.
