Court rules bloggers can protect their sources.
This is big. California's 6th District appeals court has ruled in Apple v. Does that bloggers, like journalists, are protected under California's shield law.

http://susiemadrak.com/2006/05/26/21/04/court-bloggers-... /

"The Court also held that the website editors were journalists entitled to claim Californias Journalist Shield to prevent them from being held in contempt for not disclosing sources and to claim the First Amendments protections for journalists.

"This is a *huge* win! Now journalists can feel safe knowing that they can protect their sources identity no matter in which medium they choose to disseminate news (as we argued in our amicus brief)."

3. Apple will appeal. This is limited to CA, and may not survive long
I was hoping it was a 9th Circuit Court decision, but no such luck.

7. It's the State Court of Appeals for the San Jose area.
Edited on Sat May-27-06 05:03 AM by leveymg
It rules on California state law matters. The decisions it makes are only binding in that area, have precedential importance within the state of CA, but could be cited elsewhere in similiar cases. It's decisions are subject to review by the Supreme Courts of CA and of the U.S..

8. No thanks to Apple!
Lovely computers; but just another corporation at heart.
