Senate confirms Kavanaugh to appeals court
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060526/ap_on_go_co/senate_kavanaugh_6

WASHINGTON - White House aide Brett Kavanaugh won Senate confirmation as an appeals judge Friday after a wait of nearly three years, yet another victory in President Bush's drive to place a more conservative stamp on the nation's courts.

Kavanaugh was confirmed on a vote of 57-36, warmly praised by Republicans but widely opposed by Democrats who said he is ill-suited to sit on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

Kavanaugh, the White House staff secretary, was an assistant to independent counsel Kenneth Starr during the impeachment probe of President Clinton and he worked on behalf of the Bush campaign during the election recount in 2000.

It's amazing how this story has gotten absolutely no coverage. This guy (who has never been a judge) was a major ideologue and a partisan hack. Yet nobody seems to care.

4. This is BAD
...It's bad because the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia is one level below the S.C. bu$hit wants HIS judges on this court for the same reason he wants them on the S.C - TO COVER HIS ASS regarding the crimes he's committed. The fact that this cretin is now on that court just makes it HARDER for bu$hit's crimes to ever be properly judged and prosecuted under the law. Kavanaugh is strictly a yet another diaper for bu$h's criminal ass - period.
_ _ _ _ _

"It's clear that he is a political pick being pushed for political reasons," said Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee. "This is not a court that needs another rubber stamp for this president's exertion of executive power."

5. Four Dems
Four Democrats who voted for Kavanaugh were Robert Byrd (W.Va.), Thomas Carper (Del.), Ben Nelson (Neb.) and Mary Landrieu (La.).

7. I thought this guy was blocked?
How the hell does this keep happening?

I swear, with all the enthusiasm about November, I fear we are in for a shocking disappointment. The Dems are clueless and I don't see how things are going to get resolved at this pace.

8. Article said that he got "unblocked" because Dems asked for second
hearing where he told them he had nothing to do with Abramoff, torture or any of the other Bush administrations problems.

It was that damned "Gang of 14" Dems who worked with Frist to stop the fillibuster. :-(

10. The Dems might as well pack up and go home
Edited on Sat May-27-06 06:26 PM by depakid
Seems like every day they find a new way to demoralize their base, screw the country and ensure their chances for a 7th straight defeat this fall.
