Military vows to punish philandering soldiers
THE MILITARY warned soldiers who cheat on their wives that they would be punished for their infidelity.

"If they have violated the law, we will go after them. If they are proven guilty, they face separation from the service," Honrado told reporters.

Honrado said a soldier could be charged with bigamy, abandonment, and non-support before the Provost Marshals of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The maximum penalty for such offenses is dismissal from the service.

2. Oh, so the military now doubles as the "Moral Police"?

Cause they have nothing better to do but to go after "cheating" soldiers? Oy...

5. They have laws like this already on the books and have
had them for some time. They don't fall under civilian law.

27. In the military,
under the military justice code you can't mess around if you are married. You also can't mess around with enlisted if you are an officer and vise versa and folks have been drummed out.
Frankly, if it were my spouse that had been stop lossed for as many years as some of these folks have been-I'd tell him to cheat to get out. I wouldn't have a problem with that (as long as he did it safely). I'd stand by him, and thank the other woman.

25. Unfortunately this is extremely common, and has been going on for years.
There's a law against everything in the UCMJ. The even have what's called a "General Article." Check out the wording on this baby:

“Though not specifically mentioned in this chapter, all disorders and neglects to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces, all conduct of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces, and crimes and offenses not capital, of which persons subject to this chapter may be guilty, shall be taken cognizance of by a general, special, or summary court-martial, according to the nature and degree of the offense, and shall be punished at the discretion of that court.”

That means they can bust you for whatever they want. So if you piss off somebody higher up, they can bust you...and it sticks, too.

Both adultery and cohabitation are expressly forbidden in the UCMJ, and I've seen people get charged and convicted of both.

In all of the cases with the General Article, cohabitation, adultery, and "violations" of a similar nature...they're all selectively enforced. If the commanding officer likes you, you can get away with this stuff. However, if you piss somebody off, then they start enforcing this stuff.

8. This is from The Philippine Daily Inquirer
I didn't see anything identifying this as pertaining to US troops (although there may be similar military laws in effect for troops from the US). But this article is not about the US military.

10. is cheating (on wife or husband) illegal ?
that's news to me. If the other partner files a divorce, that's another story, but still between two individuals... Besides are BJs OK ? how many soldiers will be charged with perjury for stating "I didn't have sex with that woman/man" ?

But only if the soldier is either enlisted personnel, a Democrat, or both.

Repuke officers are protected from the law, just as they're above civilian law :sarcasm:

12. Remember Kelly Flinn,
the female fighter pilot who faced a court martial for adultery in a case that was widely regarded as selective enforcement of rules and outrageous double standard?

20. She wasn't a fighter pilot; she flew a B-52. The first woman to do so
She was charged with adultery, disobeying a legal order and lying on an official statement. She was warned at least twice to stop before the UCMJ was dropped on her. As for the double standard, she was doing the civilian husband of an enlisted woman. Trust me, that was one of the very few times an enlisted woman wasn't double standarded.

13. In the US
Its illegal for an officer to cheat (conduct unbecoming), and many officers have been relieved of command for doing it.

I don't think there is any such rule that applies to enlisted personel -- although some other issues may apply.

Edited on Fri May-12-06 04:59 PM by sarge43
The adultery article applies only to commissioned officers. They can always use the old standby -- conduct unbecoming.

What's the penalty for having sex with an Iraqi woman? You no longer have to face Mecca and pray 5 times a day. All your prayers have been answered.

24. This is old news....the military's been doing this for a long time.

I was in 1992-2000 (USMC), and I know at least 12 other Marines that were busted for adultery. It's selectively enforced, though. If your CO likes you, nothing happens. If you CO doesn't like you, they bust you for it.
