DeLay Office Knew Abramoff Arranged Trip

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: May 6, 2006

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Prosecutors have e-mails showing Rep. Tom DeLay's office knew lobbyist Jack Abramoff had arranged the financing for the GOP leader's controversial European golfing trip in 2000 and was concerned ''if someone starts asking questions.''

House ethics rules bar lawmakers from accepting free trips from lobbyists. DeLay, R-Texas, reported to Congress that a Republican advocacy group had paid for the spring 2000 trip that DeLay, his wife and top aides took to Scotland and England.

The e-mails obtained by The Associated Press show DeLay's staff asked Abramoff -- not the advocacy group -- to account for the costs that had to be legally disclosed on congressional travel forms. DeLay's office was worried the group being cited as paying the costs might not even know about them, the e-mails state.

1. So, these emails are showing
Delay caught in yet another lie. Yet, he will be on a talk show tomorrow, probably protesting his innocence once again.

3. doesn't look particularly good, huh? yet he still seems to be floating in
the bowl, unflushed. maybe if they lay a few of those printed emails over the top of him they can get him to go down the drain.

5. Once again, breaking the law is no problem...
for the Republicans, but getting caught breaking the law.

Who woulda thought this guy was a gangster?

As a side issue, anyone else notice the story of DeLay's $1.5 million house in Florida and his $1 million house in Washington and his $48,000 cabin in Texas. Pretty good for a guy pulling down $161,000/year. And hey, why only a shack in Texas? As a Texan, I resent that!

6. You're talking about Rove, with the multiple homes.
But hey, Rove, DeLay, Rice, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Bush, they're all the same, one is as crooked as the next. I'm glad our government is headed by such Christian folk.

8. Go Dean!!
Edited on Sun May-07-06 09:58 AM by Breeze54
Dean did a great job, IMHO and Dean brought up the e-mails and that was the last of Delay on George's show!
Dean had the rest of that segment to himself!! Either Delay stormed out or he didn't have another word to say... :)
Dean said that Delay was on his way out of congress and he named all the people under indictment in the WH!!
"The Republican Culture of Corruption"
That was in response to Delay pointing out that there were some D's in trouble.
As usual, Delay started pointing fingers at everyone else!
And Dean went on to say that those two D's mentioned should be prosecuted also.

I love it when Delay gets his ass handed to him!
