Republican 'unity' may be slow in coming (CA-50 runoff)

NORTH COUNTY ---- Even before Brian Bilbray appeared to clinch a narrow victory Tuesday over 13 other Republican rivals to run against Democrat Francine Busby in eight short weeks to replace disgraced former Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham, supporters called on the field to "unite" behind Bilbray's candidacy.

But a day later, it appeared that unity could be slow in coming.

Eric Roach, Bilbray's nearest Republican rival, said Wednesday through campaign managers that he might ask for a recount of votes cast in the sprawling 50th District ---- a move that would delay Republican solidarity in the weeks of campaigning left before June 6.

On Wednesday morning, with nearly 100 percent of the votes counted, Bilbray had apparently eked out a narrow victory over Roach, with 15.15 percent of the vote, to Roach's 14.46 percent.

7. There is only so much that a programmer in the pay of Diebold and ES&S

can do with "TRADE SECRET' code, without tipping their hand. Busby probably won hands down (no run-off needed). I figure a 5% to 10% thumb on the scales for Bushites and warmongers.

They need this fraudulent, non-transparent, rightwing Bushite controlled election system for future use, and in bigger elections (overall Congress in '06, and Prez in '08, to safeguard the war machine and tax cuts--and prevent serious investigations). They don't want to put it in jeopardy. Ergo, big turnouts can beat the machines, at least in some cases.

But figure we have to get 5% to 10% more than is needed, just to win.

And we need to clue other voters in on the game. Bumper sticker: "Help us beat the machines--VOTE!"

There is still a GOP race for the nomination for the November election. Why would supporters of the other candidate (not Bilbry) want to elect Bilbry to the short term seat?

You have to remember that the same republicans in the first round will also be on the ballot in June for the GOP nomination along with the runoff.

So, why would these GOP'er want to "unite" behind the same guy they want to beat for the GOP nomination?

I live in the 50th. Only person in my hood with a yard sign, for Busby of course. Not very political area, although a few minutes away where my mom lives everyone had yard signs, mostly for Busby.

Bilbray is a jackass. I cannot stand that pig.

15. Voter turnout was abominable.

My daughter worked for the Busby campaign and despite friendly, positive reception from Dems while doing door-to-door canvassing, Democratic voter turnout was only 14% of registered. The 50th is one of the wealthiest districts in the state. If the Dem voters don't give enough of a shit to get out and vote, they deserve whatever crappy, crooked reTHUG they get.
