Veto of Wisconsin's antimarriage bill stands
http://www.advocate.com/new_news.asp?ID=10476&sd=11/13/03

Lawmakers who had passed a bill that would have defined marriage in Wisconsin as solely between a man and a woman failed to override the governor's veto. The state assembly on Wednesday fell one vote short of the two-thirds majority required to override Gov. Jim Doyle's veto of a law he described as "mean-spirited." Doyle, a Democrat, said state law already clearly prohibits same-sex marriage. Wisconsin law now defines marriage as a contract between a husband and wife. But supporters of the bill have warned that activist judges could interpret the language loosely and redefine marriage to allow gay couples to wed.

2. I believe the Republicans control both houses
We're still shaking off Tommy Thompson's stench around here. Gov. Doyle seems to be just the guy to do it, however.

5. Doyle seemed to enjoy going toe-to-toe with Tommy
... when he was the AG and Tommy was still King ....

I've heard Doyle's backslid a little bit, but I'm sure it feels good to have a DEM governor (and Lt Gov - my friend Barbara Lawton!!) in WI again !!!! (wish I was home !!)

:hippie:

3. Thank you Gov. Doyle.
We need some trailblazers, and he's fit the bill with this action.
