'Operation Swarmer' Expected to Last Days
March 16, 2006

BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. forces and Iraqi troops launched what the military described as the largest air assault since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion Thursday, targeting insurgent strongholds north of the capital.

The U.S. military said the raid, dubbed Operation Swarmer, was aimed at clearing "a suspected insurgent operating area" northeast of Samarra and was expected to last several days. The
Pentagon said 41 people were arrested but it was not clear if suspected insurgents put up any resistance.

Residents in the targeted area said there was a heavy U.S. and Iraqi troop presence and large explosions could be heard in the distance. The U.S. military said there was no firing or bombing from the air and the source of the blasts was not known.

"More than 1,500 Iraqi and coalition troops, over 200 tactical vehicles, and more than 50 aircraft participated in the operation," the military statement said.

This is so wrong. Why are we bombing civilian populations? We are the Occupying Power. What, we haven't killed enough children yet, to make George Bush feel like a man?

9. Here's what Bush calls insurgents

This is what Bush calls a major threat? These poor babies don't even know where America is. How many more did he kill today?

8. They should just call it operation "smarmy"
Then we can rub warm oils on a war crime and call it a prison instead,
the kind of prison where we mass murder civilians in their own cells,
a new republican prison state, their model example for how prison
rebellions the world over should be repressed.

Oh, isn't the military great and wise! I'm so so so deeply impressed
that that bunch of fuckups (not the poor grunts getting blowed up by
IED's) but the command, who were they honourable would have resigned
long ago from operation war crime. But it isn't really a military this,
and this not really a war... no it is a load of prison guards executing
the prison rebellion in stockade samarrah. Oh, isn't the military
wise, rolling on euphemism towards poetic perfection.

Now that the military has "protected us", i think we should praise the
valiant effort! Bring christianity to those heathens and teachem why
the bush/cheney corporate military axis is holy abolve even god herself.
All praise caesar, all hail bush, heil cheney and the great terror army.

13. Operation Funnynames Redux
During the Vietnam War, the Pentagon once launched a major offensive called "Operation Masher."

President Lyndon Johnson objected to that, saying "Some days I feel pretty mashed myself."

The Pentagon oblingingly changed the name to "Operation White Wing." Maybe that was supposed to invoke images of doves, instead of B-52's pounding the shit out of Vietnamese villages.

Didn't do much good. In all the official histories of the war, the offensive is listed as "Operation Masher/White Wing."

16. Dear Mr. Rumsfeld, Mr. Cheney, and Ms. Rice:
Please explain to me why a major air assault is necessary for a few dead-enders who were in their last throes and losing steam.
