'Worst case’ of child molestation goes to court
SAN DIEGO - A respiratory therapist affiliated with a children’s hospital confessed to “countless” molestations of young disabled patients, a prosecutor told a judge at the man's arraignment Friday.

The alleged confession was reported during a proceeding at which Wayne Bleyle, 54, pleaded not guilty to two counts of molestation and 24 counts of child pornography involving children under his care.

3. Well, if he's guilty...
I certainly hope he never sees the outside of prison again.

4. "...involving children under his care."
This isn't even a case of someone possessing ill-gotten porn. He's making it, according to the accusation. Not just making it, but making it under terms where he's to be helping these children.

If he is indeed guilty, may he be treated as such a person normally is in prison.

6. I've been thinking...
about punishment fitting the crime.

Putting this guy in jail won't change the evil nature of the crime. We put him in jail... at a cost of about $50K per year and he doesn't have to do shit to make up for the crime.

What about prison... PLUS having him use his profession to help his fellow inmates, or working at an AIDS clinic and trucked back to prison at night? He can't make up for what he's done, but he can pay back a bit.

I had wet dreams of Randy Cunningham in the Crossbar Hotel and rooming with a large biker who thought he "had a purdy mouth". BUT... that fuck will just eat and sleep on our dime, and the only lesson he's gonna teach politicians is to not get caught.

How about he works in the Aids clinic alongside the perv in the story? How about ol' Randy using what's left of his money to fly back to DC at the start of every Congress session and give a speech on the floor about what he did and how he screwed the pooch, and what scum he is?

Prison is too easy for each of those guys.

8. I've had an emotionally draining day so I probably shouldn't reply...
...in this thread, but dammit, I will anyway. All the folks calling for punishment-- I know how you feel, that a crime like this must be severely punished, but the older I get the more I question the point. Punishment gives no one any real satisfaction except through indulging their own worst natures-- "I hope this guy suffers!" It doesn't give any of the children their innocence back. It obviously doesn't deter the molester (or other criminals). How many of you can honestly say "I'd be a child molester but the reason I'm not is because I know how bad the punishment would be!" Punishing this guy will serve no good purpose other than giving some the satisfaction of revenge.

I just don't know what to do otherwise. I don't think there are any answers. Clearly the best solution must start with removing him from any further opportunity to hurt children, but beyond that how does making him suffer solve anything? How does taking his life solve anything? There is too much suffering in this man's life already, and in the lives of those he's harmed.

15. There comes a point where someone is bad for the community.
It takes a lot to get there for me, but child molesters definitely qualify for that distinction. Any redeeming value they may provide as human beings is negated by the damage and destruction they do to those around them.

I was recently told that a man my husband grew up with repeatedly molested his thirteen year old step-daughter. He confessed, served ten days in jail, and is now paying the mother off financially.

His excuse was that he was "depressed." I suggest that next time he is "depressed" he commit suicide as opposed to molesting innocent children. If he had opted for that approach instead of molesting his thirteen year old daughter, I believe the entire planet would have been better off.

Now, with that said, if he had opted to get mental "help" with his depression instead of molesting and/or suicide, I would have supported that decision, too. However, his personal excuse of HIS depression did not now and never will excuse what he did to his step-daughter, nor will he ever be considered "safe" to be around other children again. Unfortunately, history teaches that he will undoubtedly indulge himself again when other people stop paying attention.

We would all be better off if he were dead.

I know my practicality is cruel, and you probably disagree with me. You are entitled to do so. Fortunately for this man, I am not in a position of lawful authority to render the verdict I believe he warrants. I will not, however, cry at his funeral. He is despicable, and while his soul may be redeemed by a loving God, his value to the planet is in my opinion irretrievable.

the children are STILL innocent. They don't need to have that given back to them.

28. Sorry mike, but to a child that has been molested
"how does making him suffer solve anything" just doesn't cut it.
Being abused IS A LIFE SENTENCE to the victims.
Those kids will suffer for the rest of their lives, that piece of shit should too.

Oh, and before you ask, yes, I was abused as a child.
I STILL feel guilty to this day, 45 years later.
So, IMO, he needs to be put in the general population in the prison, there are more then a few guys that were abused as as children that will take care of this son of a bitch.
I wont shed a tear for him.

The prosecutor alleged that Bleyle chose the “most brain-damaged, most comatose” children to abuse and she described him as a “prolific trader in child pornography.”

11. A Shame it didn't happen in Oklahoma.
So the son of a bitch can get what he deserves. As it is now it's safe living in protective custody for this excrement, disgusting. The least they can do is put him in gen-pop but that would be "cruel".

12. Did the hospital ever have any indication that something was amiss?
If not, then what's wrong with the security structure? The women's hospital next door required ID for all visitors some years ago, and it was my impression they were generally quite strict in their security policies. But perhaps that was all just show for the public.

I feel there's more to this story, but I'm skeptical it will come out.

It's always the little, lone individual that's sick.

13. Security checks were no help here.
The pervert had passed security checks, had no criminal record, and had been employed by the hospital for over 10 years. And he chose his prey carefully, using children who had no way to communicate what was happening to them.

I had a problem with a paedophile in Australia, who also worked with handicapped children to abuse them. He used rohypnol on children so they could not remember afterwards; I found out because one of the children was my own son. We could sort out what had happened, but never prove it in court, and that man is still considered to be a good church-going christian, still "selflessly" working with the disabled, despite 1 conviction for which he was jailed for 6 months, and several other parents following my example and successfully getting court orders to keep him away from their own children.

And this man looks spine-chillingly like him ...

As for what to do about such people, I advocate kindness. I'd be kind enough to painlessly put all the child-abusing perverts down. They don't change, all they do is lie, prey, and fuck up people's lives.

18. I am so sorry about what happened to your family.
It is difficult to prove these cases in court. The perpetrators are always smart enough to do it in private. Many times the only evidence is the child's statement. Juries have a hard time convicting on a child's word alone. If this guy had not confessed, I wonder if they could have proven the crimes--he may also have gotten away with it.

17. When asked how many children he had molested, the defendant
looked out the window at the snow and said, "How many snowflakes are out there?".

I don't see how the death penalty can ever be an option when the crimes do not involve murder, but I can see why this case stretches that logic for some DUers.
