Pfizer Says It Will Provide Free Antibiotic to 135 Million w/ Eye Infectio
UNITED NATIONS (AP) - In a major boost to a U.N. campaign to eradicate an eye infection that causes blindness, Pfizer announced that it will provide an antibiotic free to treat about 90 percent of the 150 million people afflicted.
The international organization leading the fight against trachoma-related blindness said it is "enthusiastic" that with the medicine it can now achieve the goal set by the World Health Organization of eliminating the ancient scourge by 2020.

Over the last five years, the pharmaceutical giant has provided eight million doses of the antibiotic Zithromax to the International Trachoma Initiative to treat sufferers in nine impoverished countries in Africa and Asia.

8. Why are you trying to make this personal? Besides, my post
concerned investing in Pfizer who has been in the top ten Pharm contributers for a looong time.

Maybe you should read the post and link before making personal jabs.

11. I am sick of the negative spin people put on even the good news.
This is good news. It is a charitable humanitarian donation to people who could lose their sight. Also, they are sending ther top-shelf drug for treating this problem. To belittle the donor for their political donations means that you value your political agenda over the wellbeing of the poor. That is why.

I am also sick of the direction our party is taking. We are being percieved as crybabies and whiners. Posts that find fault with charitable donations do nothing but fool this perception and I think that drivers away reasonable contributors and voters from our cause.

12. I'm having trouble seeing how you get that from my post.
I pointed out that they are a MAJOR Republican contributor. I said NOTHING about their donation. Look at their board.

Republicans can do good things, too. I'm not going to go celebrate every good deed a Republican does (even though it wouldn't take too long) because I'd rather spend my time pushing Democrat accomplishments and issues.

Please don't take your hostilities out on me. I've said nothing against you or anything you have said here. Take a deep breath, dude.

13. ditto that
I have wondering about posting a Pfizer thread with my suspicions about them.

They now the major funder of an AEI scholar Ben Wattenburg's PBS show 'Think-Tank'. I think they do some funding of AEI also.

I also ran into them before, when I found a biography of a right wing European scholar on their site.

10. Now let's work on the corporations that make the HIV/AIDs drugs..
...by far this is one of the greatest evils in this world; the poor cannot afford the drug cocktails to keep alive.
This news about Pfizer is great, but now let's apply some pressure for others to provide free generic HIV/AIDs medication.
