Nevada GOP chairman supports rule targeting impeached official

ASSOCIATED PRESS

BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. (AP) - Nevada Republican Party Chairman Paul Adams is pressing for a new party rule that would withhold GOP support for impeached politicians.

At a party gathering in Battle Mountain, Adams sharply criticized state Controller Kathy Augustine's run for state treasurer after she became the first constitutional officer in Nevada history to be impeached and convicted.

"We as a party need to stand for something," he said Saturday. "We are a party that was incensed over the actions of Bill Clinton.

"If you have certain things in your background, you should be disqualified for office. You should not be running as a Republican," Adams said.

Augustine's presence on the ballot would "taint our ticket" and feed into Democratic attempts to portray the GOP as fostering a "culture of corruption," Adams added.

The Johnson County Republican chairman has demanded that Mark Parkinson resign as a GOP precinct committeeman because of his support for a Democrat for Kansas attorney general.

Parkinson shot back that he already had done just that.

Parkinson announced Monday that he was backing Democrat Paul Morrison for attorney general. Morrison had been a Republican but switched parties to take on GOP Attorney General Phill Kline.

Parkinson said Wednesday that he had sent county GOP Chairman Doug Patterson an e-mail Monday resigning from the elective precinct position.

“Resigning this elected party office is the only right and honest thing to do,” Patterson said.

3. We have that in a local race here, too.
A big dumb repuke wants to be sheriff here, but he knows he won't win the repuke primary. He is running as a Democrat, so he can get on the ballot. We don't have a viable candidate, so he is it.

We are going to make some kind of statement of non-support just before the primary, but we haven't worked out the wording yet.

4. In this case, probably so. The person, Phill Kline, against whom he's

running is a long-time, pushy, right-wing ideologue, who has used his office to crank up the hard-right agenda, springing into action the moment he was sworn in to start trying to get access to data on all abortions, to get doctors to inform on all their female patients who had had abortions, trying to find ways to learn from them what underaged teenagers had had sexual relations, going after everyone right-wingnuts have been trying to control since Bush moved to Washington.

Paul Morrison, who's a tremendous prosecuting attorney, even though a Republican until recently, in Kansas, just across the state line from Kansas City, decided to run against this creep and try to get him out of office before he does too much more damage!
