(Gov.) Rounds Inclined to Sign Abortion Ban (South Dakota)

Gov. Mike Rounds said today he’s inclined to sign a bill aimed at banning most abortions and creating a U.S. Supreme Court challenge to the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. That will happen if he determines that it can save lives, he said at a press conference.

The governor did say, though, that “Personally, I think we will save more lives by continuing to chip away at Roe versus Wade’’ than by what he called a frontal assault as envisioned in the South Dakota Legislature’s bill.

The bill would ban nearly all abortions in South Dakota. That’s unconstitutional under current U.S. Supreme Court rulings, and the goal of the legislation is to force the high court to take a fresh look at its 1973 ruling that legalized abortion. Both chambers of the Legislature have passed the bill. The House is scheduled to vote later today on whether to accept a Senate change. Many House members said they expect that to pass and the bill to be delivered to the governor by early next week.

Rounds said if lawmakers finish their process on Friday, he’d have 15 days to review it and make sure it does what sponsors say it does. “My inclination, once again, it sounds like a hedge when I say it, but truly we will look at the fine details in the bill to make sure it does what the sponsors intend it to do first,’’ he said.

5. Oh, they may know rape and incest victims
But they just don't give a damn. This issue has become about nothing more than making women's uteruses government property, dressed up in the feel-good language of "saving lives" or "saving babies." It's oppression and subjugation.

7. Leslie Unruh...

... and her Alpha Center make a living off of victims "of a rape, incest, or a woman who had to face the very real and scary choice of aborting a child and keeping her health or having the child and ruining their health". She is so obsessed with this that she bought the building that Buck Williams, MD, the last doctor in Sioux Falls to openly provide women's services (abortions on demand) occupied before his retirement a few year ago.

PS: Dr. Williams let it be known years ago that he carries a large pistol on his person to protect himself from folks like Leslie and her groupies.

6. Rounds is a smooth talker...

...and this shows it. The Roger Hunt/the group has been trying and failing on this for years, hence the brouhaha over the "wording" and Mr. Hunt so confident that it will stick this time. I guess old lawyers need something to do in their spare time.

8. Who will take care of the broken mothers?
Who will adopt and care for the rape and incest victims who are permanently traumatized, the women who are physically destroyed by haemmorage and septicaemia from the back street coat hangers, the ordinary 13 year old girls whose lives are truncated?

Anyone who supports a law that has these as forseeable outcomes is pure evil, plain and simple. Words cannot begin to describe the rage I feel towards these bloodless psychopaths.

9. This just in from AP
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — State lawmakers voted Friday to ban nearly all abortions in South Dakota and sent the measure to the governor, who said he is inclined to sign it.
Under the legislation, doctors in South Dakota would face up to five years in prison for performing an abortion unless it was necessary to save the woman’s life.
The bill directly targets Roe v. Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion. State lawmakers believe the nation’s highest court is now more likely to reverse itself on the abortion issue because of the recent appointments of Justices John Roberts and Samuel Alito.
Planned Parenthood, which operates the only clinic performing abortions in South Dakota, has pledged to challenge the measure in court.

10. Do the majority of the people
in South Dakota support this draconian legislation? If they don't they'd better get off their asses and vote all who signed on to the legislation out of office. Period. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Lose your seat. EOM
