'Peace mom' comes to Houston to target President's mom
Iraq war activist Cindy Sheehan will be in Houston to help carry out a protest against President Bush's mother.

You may remember, Sheehan got national attention after refusing to budge from outside of President Bush's Crawford ranch last year.

11. I agree
it is very strange. Barbara Bush is an old woman, might even have dementia. She has no power to do anything. It will just make CS look very stupid.

I hope this is a bogus report. It's way out there.

48. My mom is an old woman
(she's 82). She likes that Cindy is confronting Babs (mostly because Mom can't stand any of Bushes). She did say it would be better if grandmothers her age who've lost grandchildren were confronting the old bat because there's going to be someone trying to give Barbara a pass because she's old. As Mom says, "Old doesn't mean stupid and old isn't an excuse to be a bitch."

And, remember how the suffrage amendment passed. It all hinged on the vote of one legislator - who listened to his mother and voted for it. If George Bush had a different kind of mother, we might not be in the mess he's gotton us into.

53. I'm with you and your mom. Barbara Bush is a callous, vicious
old swine. She's shown this time and time again. It would be different if she had always shown kindness. But she hasn't.

People think old women are so delicate. They're not--at least, while they may be ailing physically (never heard that Babs was), those old women who make public statements are still functioning mentally. If Babs weren't a player, I might think differently.

But the Bushes go out of their way to paint a picture of Barbara as being this sort of "mother bear" :puke: , so they're asking for it.

I think Cindy is doing the right thing.

63. Can't find a single thing to disagree with, here. GREAT post.
barbara bush IS fair game. The minute she inserts herself into the public discourse, on glaringly loud issues or circumsstances of public interest or concern, she IS fair game. ABSOLUTELY fair game, especially with such insensitive public remarks as the "beautiful mind" crack and the "...they're underprivileged anyway, so I think this is working out well for them..." Sorry, babs, you have to pay for thoughtless, insensitive remarks like that.

Just because she's old doesn't excuse her - or entitle her to a free pass. If she's to be considered NOT fair game, then she should butt out, decline interviews, and don't show up at the "Today Show" and other such places that give her a public forum to make an ass of herself. She MAKES herself fair game by putting herself out there, saying provocative things (when, by the time someone's reached her age and her level of experience, one would think they'd know better), and accepting any opportunity to mouth off with an open mike in her face. She's old enough to know better by now, since she's played in this level of public arena. She cannot beg ignorance - that she didn't realize a camera was on her or the mike was open. She's not some Priscilla Nobody who's the matriarch of some Never-Heard-of-'Em family here. She's a veteran, of MANY YEARS, of the most public of open political combat. She's also had MANY instances in her life when she's been sought for comment and she's spoken out and drawn flack for it. None of this "aw, she's just an old lady... leave her alone" stuff for this woman. She goes into this with intention. She always has. She knows exactly what she's saying, because she's been around plenty long enough by now to have learned to hold her tongue or at least defer to her husband on stuff so she won't say something insensitive or embarrassing. Her behavior over the years is indicative of her inability or maybe willful refusal to learn any lessons offered her. Perhaps it's because she, like her nogoodnik son, just maintains this imperious assumption that she's incapable of error. Kinda like our friend HALL 9000 from "2001: A Space Odyssey."

The only concern I have here is for Cindy Sheehan. I'm with her 100,000 percent. These people have enjoyed such a free ride for so long that I guess some mom has to roll up her sleeves like some frickin' cleaning woman - and confront this shit when it presents itself. I just hope Cindy isn't made to suffer too much because of this.

15. Uh-- as has been mentioned.
Babs deserves worse-- she is a vile excuse for a multitude of things:

1) Mother
2) Woman
3) Human

Her *public* statements have cemented her status as one of the worst women of the last half of the 20th century.

She deserves *much* worse than Sheehan can dish out.

55. I think you're right.
Cindy Sheehan is not a vicious person, unlike the Piece of Albino Beef Jerky. Barbara Bush has a reputation as being unbelievably insensitive.

She knows it, too. (*well, maybe not now. This was a few years ago).

The article said that

"Barbara Bush was well aware of how she often rubbed people the wrong way. After many episodes of insulting people and hurting their feelings unintentionally, she finally decided to use more caution and weigh her words before she said them. George H.W. Bush calls her "Miss Frank". They both laugh at that. Barbara Bush had just returned from a children's hospital in Dallas where she had made a speech. It seemed to go off well."

Let's face it: Cindy Sheehan will not be vicious, but Babs will.

31. After the Civil War, Julia Ward Howe said:

Arise, then, women of this day! Arise all women who have hearts, whether our baptism be that of water or of fears! Say firmly: "We will not have great questions decided by irrelevant agencies. Our husbands shall not come to us, reeking with carnage, for caresses and applause. Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn all that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy and patience. We women of one country will be too tender of those of another country to allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs. From the bosom of the devastated earth a voice goes up with our own. It says "Disarm, Disarm! The sword of murder is not the balance of justice."
Blood does not wipe our dishonor nor violence indicate possession. As men have often forsaken the plow and the anvil at the summons of war, let women now leave all that may be left of home for a great and earnest day of counsel. Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead. Let them then solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means whereby the great human family can live in peace, each bearing after their own time the sacred impress, not of Caesar, but of God. In the name of womanhood and of humanity, I earnestly ask that a general congress of women without limit of nationality may be appointed and held at some place deemed most convenient and at the earliest period consistent with its objects, to promote the alliance of the different nationalities, the amicable settlement of international questions, the great and general interests of peace.
This appeal to women is recognized by many as the proclamation of the first Mother’s Day.

71. Exactly. Mothers' Day was an anti-war expression, not a Hallmark invention
In these past 5 years I've tried to remember to send that essay of hers around to my lists on Mothers' Day. Julia Ward Howe was an activist in her day, not some soppy sentimentalist.

God bless Cindy Sheehan and keep her strong.

61. A big disappointment
Cindy Sheehan has gotten the last donation from us. Her original stance was admirable and we supported her all the way. She really was heroic.

Now, she's hugging Chavez, threatening Sen. Feinstein that she'll run for her seat if Feinstein doesn't do this or that, and, in general, becoming a perfect tool of a bunch of people - I suspect - with an agenda that might not involve Mrs. Sheehan's best interests. She's lost her focus and is doing things that don't make sense to us.

If she's putting off a couple of wildeyed old kneejerk leftie liberals, imagine how she's perceived in Middle America.

This targeting of Barbara "I Should Have Been Sterilized At Birth" Bush is right up there with Rush Limbaugh calling Chelsea Clinton names. It's not right, it's not fair, and it should not be done.

So long, Cindy. You had a great start. Our continuing sympathies for the loss of your son. But, you're now a liability to us and what we believe.

69. Bush Sr. Started this. He threatened to 'set Barbara' on Cindy if she
if she came to Texas to demonstrate. I'm not sure what the event was, but I don't think Cindy was planning to go after Babs. She responded immediately to Bush Sr. though, I remember and it was brilliant.

She said something like 'I would love to talk to Barbara Bush. If she is going to come and talk to me, I have a few questions for her, like:

'If this war is so great, how come none of her grandchildren are over there?

She wanted to ask her if she had any idea what it was like to lose a child because someone lied to you? etc. etc. Wish I could find the list, it was great and she said 'that's all I can think of now, but I'll think of more by the time I get there'.

Bush Sr. should stay out of his son's business. Threatening to let his wife loose on those who want answers about this war, made it perfectly fine for Cindy to respond and take him at his word, that Barbara would be waiting for her in Texas.

We'll see if Barbara actually deigns to bother her beautiful mind with such trivia as dealing with the mothers of children lost because her son's actions. I have a feeling she won't be there. But Cindy will ~ because her cause is just, and Barbara's is not.

70. Yes, Mrs. Sheehan's cause is just,
but her showboating - as you have so carefully and, I am certain, accurately delineated in your post - is what has ended my support for her ancillary antics.

If she's so gullible as to dignify a moronic wisecrack by George H. W. Bush, then her judgment - more, I believe it's the "handlers" who are how managing her - is sadly deficient, and, as I said in my original post, she's lost her focus.

Biting on that hook is yet another indication of Mrs. Sheehan's having lost her way. The power of her message, I believe, was its simplicity. Now, with her threats to Senator Feinstein and her Venezuelan visit (what did THAT have to do with her son's death in Iraq?) and countless other episodes, we have come to the sad conclusion that yet another Democrat has screwed it up.

Your big error, by the way, is that Barbara Bush has no "cause." Don't confuse the mother with the son. If you did that, Mrs. Sheehan is rendered dead, too.

I believe I know what you mean. I think that protesting that fat sow, Barbara Bush is ENTIRELY called for; she didn't want to bother her "beautiful mind" worrying about body bags, etc. However, much as BB deserves anything she may get, I fear that a protest would backfire. I am NOT apologizing for or standing up for that reptile who squeezed GWB into the world, but I have no faith that the American people won't suddenly decide they adore her bulging eyes and take it out on the messenger (Cindy S.).

5. More: "From Cindy Sheehan: For the Love of God, Can't you Make him Stop?!"
this from a thread a few days ago, posted by WestHoustonDem:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=2455686

<blockquote>Former President George Bush took a shot at protestor Cindy Sheehan on Friday while speaking to students at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Bush told the audience if she shows up to their church as expected she'll have to deal with his wife Barbara. KVET News, Central Texas

On President's Day (Feb 20th), Gold Star Families for Peace, Veterans for Peace, and Code Pink are sponsoring an action in Houston, Tx. near the elder Bush's estate called, "For the Love of God. Can't you make him stop?"

We will be demonstrating in front of George, Sr. and Bar's church, St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston from 4pm to 7pm on President's Day on Monday, February 20th. And we have something to say to the Bush family (who apparently send their women to fight their battles): Bring Her On.

Mrs. Bush can read my sign with a big picture of my son, Casey, on it which will read: Your Son Killed My Son, Make him Stop!

George, Sr. says that I will have to deal with "Barbara." Well, SHE will have to deal with me and she will have to deal with: Amy Branham, whose son, Jeremy, was killed while in training to be deployed to Iraq; Juan Torres, whose son, John, was killed in Afghanistan while he was trying to expose the active drug trade on his post; Beatriz Saldivar, whose nephew, Daniel Torres, was killed in Iraq; Dede Miller, whose nephew, Casey, was killed in Iraq; and Bill Mitchell, whose son, Michael, was killed in the same incident in Iraq that my son was killed in.

We have some questions for Barbara so we hope she will come. Here are a few of our questions:

If you think that this war is such a "noble cause" why aren't any of your children, or grandchildren in combat over in Iraq?

Do you think that any of us wanted to trouble our "pretty minds" with images of flag draped coffins? Only for us, they weren't images. They were actual flag draped coffins carrying our dear loved ones. Not only are we troubled by these images, they are imprinted on our hearts and souls forever.

About how much money do you think the Bush family has raped from America over the years from war profiteering?

Did you ever wash Little George's mouth out with soap for lying?

Lately, we have heard from Larry Wilkerson how the intelligence and all of the pre-invasion posturing was a "hoax" how do you think that makes us feel? Our children are dead because of a trick played on the world by your son and his administration.

How many innocent Iraqis have died and how many are your family willing to have die before the travesty in Iraq ends?

I am sure that we will think of many more questions between now and next week.

So, we Gold Star Families for Peace, invite you Mrs. Barbara Bush, to a Tea Party in front of your church on Feb. 20, 2006 at 4pm in the afternoon. Come and "deal" with us. We welcome the opportunity to speak with you.

We will set an extra place at our Tea Party for Truth for you. Come join us.</blockquote>

You are back on track, Cindy.

Talk about an event designed to attract loads of publicity: "The war between the moms."

Cindy Sheehan is the one person most responsible for turning around public opinion about the Iraq war. For that we should honor her.

21. Too much credit given
to Barbara Bush. I'm not sure she is human.

As for Cindy Sheehan targeting her, I can't see what that would accomplish, but I do believe Babs is fair game since she does speak out in public as a former First Lady, and says some mighty stupid things.

I think I know where George gets his knack for words... :eyes:

24. I heard Randi Rhodes say on Friday that Cindy e-mailed her.
Cindy had been in NO and told Randi that there was no way to be prepared for how NO looked like. It was the worst thing that she had ever seen. That it looked liked a bomb had blown NO up. So I stand by Cindy going and targeting Babs the bitch for all her nasty remarks she has made and for giving birth to Satan jr.

36. I don't blame her for giving birth.
Rosemary didn't have a choice either.

Now-- raising the vile piece of filth the way she did..as well as the others...

*that* is a crime she should for which she should be taken to task.

40. I'll give Babs one thing,
she probably won't run away from Cindy the way her wimpy little boy did.

I do believe Georgie Boy has a problem with strong, outspoken women. It also seems he has set out to do everything in his power to quash the spirt, and rights, of such women. Unfortunately, in my 57 years, have known many a man like that. They all seemed to have had unresolved problems with a very strong MOTHER. Can you say BABS?

Ok, enough of "Doctor Mom" for the day.

49. It makes sense when one remembers that Babs said she could
not be troubled to think about dead soldiers. Cindy's son is dead after all. Babs took the time also to make a very disparaging remark about the New Orleans citizens who had lost their homes. She is her sons major dumbo model for sure.

Edited on Tue Feb-21-06 12:03 AM by auagroach
In 1984, she referred to vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro of New York's famed Zaccaro-Ferraro family as "rhymes with rich." though Babara Boxer is reported to have claimed it was "witch" not "rich".

Edited on Tue Feb-21-06 11:47 AM by AzDar
Ms. Sheehan was arrested at the SOTU address for wearing a t-shirt deemed offensive by the Government Asshats who got her son needlessly killed.; namely, Babs Bush's vile offspring.
WHO'S the goddamned BULLY here?
And since that rotten seahag certainly doesn't mind piping up to defend the policies of her demon-spawn when Georgie the Feeb needs her to..policies which are DESTROYING OUR COUNTRY, that makes her fair game,IMNSHO.

73. I did not say she was a bully...
Please re-read my post before you chastise me. I said she would appear as one in the press. She is taking a stand, which I fully support, regarding the war in Iraq. I think she is making a strategic mistake to go after Babs. There are so many important battles. Taking on the president's elderly mother is not one she should waste her time on. And it will backfire.
