Oh shoot! Veep had no license for quail hunt

Oh shoot! Veep had no license for quail hunt

WASHINGTON - Vice President Cheney had no license to kill - quail, that is.
After the White House reluctantly conceded yesterday that it sat on the blockbuster news that Cheney shot a hunting buddy Saturday, the veep's office revealed he didn't even have the proper $7 stamp on his hunting license to shoot quail in Texas.

"The staff asked for all permits needed, but was not informed of the $7 upland game-bird stamp requirement," Cheney's office said in a statement last night.

Although he was hunting illegally when he blasted Austin millionaire Harry Whittington, Cheney will get off with a warning from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, his office said.

The latest embarrassing disclosure came hours after a pair of angry exchanges between reporters and White House spokesman Scott McClellan, who admitted that top aides and President Bush knew on Saturday night about the accident, but revealed nothing.

1. More Republican lawlessness and corruption
All pigs are equal, but some pigs are more equal than others.

3. Ummmm....Ok. Can we concentrate on something important?
Like the cover-up and the manipulation of the story by the press.

The $7 ticket is a ruse. One DU hunter already speculated yesterday that the Veep probably didn't have it...it's a fairly new regulation.

Fade the noise.

4. I agree this is fairly small potatoes
and the cover-up is the real story. But you have to admit "Cheney didn't even have a license" is political gold.

Welcome to DU, lagavulin. Have some scotch on me. :toast:

22. Um...
what's the cover-up and manipulation regarding this 'accident'?

It was a Republican trial lawyer after all...how many people here think about hunting GOP lawyers?

Baker would make a fine trophy on any rec room wall!!

7. He had hunting license--but had not purposed the stamp (upland
game-bird).

Many states have requirements such as these. Such as you can purchase the general fishing license but if you want to fish to walleye you have to buy a stamp (extra money).

8. Texas hunting Stamp money helps support good hunting conditions....
Which often means preservation of (undeveloped) habitat & restoration of depleted populations--from other WILD populations. Duck Stamp buyers LOVE the wetlands. So--some stamp money actually helps the environment.

The Upland Bird Stamp was only created in September. But it replaces stamps that many hunters already bought. If Cheney's "people" didn't care about Texas law--the people who allow hunting on their ranch should have.

9. HAVEN'T YOU READ THE SECOND AMENDMENT?
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 08:36 AM by MannyGoldstein
The Executive can do whatever it decides it needs to do during wartime - that means torture, spying, hunting quail, - even genocide if needed. The laws and the Constitution don't apply. However, the President has said that if you have any suggestions, he'll be happy to listen to them.

(Sorry. Man, I gotta stay away from NewsBusters)

Never mind.

10. Well, that explains it...
he shot the guy in the face because he didn't have that very important stamp affixed to his hunting license. Incompetence Happens...should be our mantra.

11. A shining example of how these thugs believe they are above the law.

Sadly, a great many other Americans seem to believe that too. About the thugs, I mean.

12. Sheesh, Sabra, you think that laws apply to Cheney and Bush the way
you are going on about this issue. Silly Sabra. This is the VP. NO LAWS APPLY TO HIM, at least in his mind.

Heck, even the police can't interview him and his girlfriend.

14. I want to make up laws, too
Cheney was probably just jealous that Bush can make up whatever laws he wants, so he decided to try his hand at it.

15. Notice what story this
is covering up?

Better to have the media and opponents squealing about a missing $7 stamp than about destroying a network monitoring WMD in Iran?

17. So they've entered the plea of ignorance?
If I were fishing without a license, and a Department of Environmental Conservation officer approached me and required to see my license, you think "I was not informed I was required to have a stamp" would hold any water?
