Study: New Machines Await 4 in 5 Voters
Fewer voters will cast their ballots by punching a card or pulling a lever in this November's elections as the country continues to turn to newer, electronic machines, according to a study released Monday.

While the study says old systems that were prone to error are on their way out, experts also note that means many Americans will be voting on unfamiliar equipment this fall.

At least four out of five registered voters will use the newer generation of machines — either ATM-style touchscreen machines or ones that ask voters to fill in the blanks, a vast change from the contested 2000 presidential election that spurred states and Congress to push for improved equipment.

Back in 2000, just over half the voters had access to the latest technology.

3. Can't wait to watch my vote disappear into cyber-space with no printed
record or accountability. "black box" voting was a stroke of genius for the crooks.

4. Just a thought...
"...old systems that were prone to error are on their way out" to be replaced by the NEW error prone systems that are much more easily rigged (no shaving of cams HERE - only the best methods of rigging elections for MY state!).

Ya know, they'll come back after this upcoming debacle and tell us how things went much more smoothly than expected and the REAL story won't get out for days or weeks (if ever).

Dude, I want my country back, and I want it with actual PAPER ballots. They seem to work in the vast majority of democracies around the world. I don't understand why we can't have what works here.

18. Well, they ought to be careful...
because I don't believe that the populace is ready to have their voting rights stripped away (except for a about a third of the sheeple) and there are quite a few of us who are watching what they do. They will have to convince another 17% or so that they just really don't need to vote because the "good guys" will look out for them.

These elitist bastards don't think democracy is a BAD thing, they just think that too many of us participate in it and want to reduce the participants to those they really represent (but not who they PRETEND to represent).

5. BAN ALL MACHINES. PAPER BALLOTS HAND COUNTED ONLY.
They are trying to make machines an inevitability.

We need to tell them to kiss our ass.

9. Whatever happened to the old lever machines?
Were there major problems or something with them? When I used them I had no problems.
Are they still around? Sold to other countries?

14. Smalltown, KY
We still use one here. We only need the one. No problems that I'm aware of.

It's kind of fun to walk in and see it again.

15. The old lever machines...
were harder to rig than the new electronic version. It required a specially crafted or modified part for it to work and be undetected. I still like the paper ballot counted by hand, but would be willing to accept paper ballot created by machine (provided it is human readable) with a preliminary count by machine and a final count by human.

Like I said above, it's good enough for most of the rest of the world, why isn't it good enough for us?

8. You folks who still have your vote counted should raise hell, get some....
...new LAWS passed already.

My vote was taken away in 2002 (Georgia) by the Diebold Corporation, so they won't listen to me any more.:evilfrown:

10. No mention of VOTE-PAD. Educate your state and your congress! VOTE-PAD:
Vote-PAD: The Simple Voting Device that May Save American Democracy!

Yolo County, CA Spurns ES&S, Signs up to Use Vote-PAD for Voters with Disabilities, Other Jurisdictions may be Right Behind!

Made of paper, plastic and NO SOFTWARE AT ALL, the device works with a paper ballot and costs about one-tenth of flawed, hackable electronic voting machines...Could this be the HAVA voting solution America has been waiting for?

The Vote-PAD was recently featured in an article by WIRED NEWS which includes a few instructive graphics showing how the device basically works.

Much more information, explanation, testimonials, graphic explanations and downloadable brochures are available via the Vote-PAD website at www.Vote-PAD.us.

11. IN Canada - we use paper and pencil - a folded ballot - handed to a human
.
.
.

the human tears off the registration number, and another human strikes your name off the voters list

The ballots are then counted by a human, overseen by other humans . .

what's the matter down there?

You running short of HUMANS ???

sadly

it appears so

13. You see, it's too much work to count ballots.
This is post 9/11. You have to think this way.

We no longer need the vote because we need Bushco more.

Now, quite your fussing and do the patriotic thing and shut up.
