Merkel likens Iranian president to Hitler
Chancellor Angela Merkel likened hardline Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Adolf Hitler on Saturday, saying the world must act now to stop him before his country developed a nuclear bomb.

"We want, we must prevent Iran from developing its nuclear program further," Merkel told top policymakers from around the world in a speech to the annual Munich security conference.

Referring to the rise of Hitler in the 1930s, Merkel added: "Now we see that there were times when we could have acted differently. For that reason Germany is obliged ... to make clear (to Iran) what is permissible and what isn‘t."

Europe and the United States suspect Iran of planning to build nuclear weapons. Tehran says its nuclear program is purely for civilian energy purposes.

2. I had a feeling
she was going to be bad news when she got in. But, I think the German people are more aware of Bush's resemblance to Hitler than the Iranian president.

13. She's TOTALLY in$ Bett
with the Ami$. To understand this, first you must grok that Angela grew up with the Stasi. I used to have real hope for her, however her authoritarian-oriented has been completely subsumed by the Bavarian/Texan (re)constructionists. ;-)

3. Kind of interesting, considering she's the Chancellor of
Germany, a post held by Hitler before he declared himself the Fuhrer.

21. Even better when you consider....
That the CDU/CSU party which she is part of, is partly made up of remnats of the pre-war Catholic Center party, who were the ones who held the vote leverage to pass the Enabling act (which they were persuaded to do), and thus started the whole mess!

4. The preceding two comments brought to you
by the department of kneejerk.

Just because Merkel is not your cup of tea doesn't mean Ahmadinejad is certifiably coockoo.

16. I think you missed the word "not" in there somewhere
Although I know what you mean.

The U.S. may have somewhat justifiable concerns about Iran getting the bomb, but that has nothing to do with the sanity of Iran's leadership. If they are trying to produce a nuclear weapon, it may be a dangerous gamble, but that doesn't mean the leadership is "cuckoo".

Given the military realties and the threats of the Bush regime, an Iranian atomic bomb would be quite a sane goal to pursue.

5. merkel should know better
the president of iran has about as much power as bush does which is very little .like bush, the president of iran is a mouth piece for the religious leaders and others that really control iran. all three leaders make it simple so people can know what to think without asking why.

6. But just two days ago, Rummy was comparing Chavez to Hitler.
So which is it? Maybe Merkel had a bad phone connection when they called her with the talking points.

8. Bad move...
Really stupid throwing gas on the fire...just like Hitler. Germany already has a strong undercurrent of immigrant hopelessness and nativist resentment--last thing a German leader should be doing is lecturing anyone with moral authority...

"Merkel added: "Now we see that there were times when we could have acted differently. For that reason Germany is obliged ... to make clear (to Iran) what is permissible and what isn‘t."

Yeah...coulda, woulda, shoulda...now STFU...we are all human and we all make mistakes

15. George H.W. Bush called Saddam "Hitler"
Which a immoral, immature stupid thing to say.

And I myself compare the Bushes to Hitler. And they think I'm unpatriotic.

17. Comparing world leaders with Hitler is an early warning signal
That something is probably in the works. It is the ultimate preemptive war rationale. Which is odd, because Hitler was the ultimate preemptive war leader.
