White House Admits Factual Error in State of Union Address

WASHINGTON — The White House (search) acknowledged Monday that President Bush's State of the Union (search) address in January was incorrect in stating that Iraq had recently sought significant quantities of uranium in Africa.


The acknowledgment came as a British parliamentary commission questioned the reliability of British intelligence about Saddam Hussein's efforts to obtain weapons of mass destruction in the run-up to the war in Iraq.

Bush said in his State of the Union address that the British government had learned that Saddam recently sought significant quantities of uranium in Africa.

The president's statement was incorrect because it was based on forged documents from the African nation of Niger, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer (search) acknowledged. (snip/...)

just another way to say "Lie"

They knew it was wrong. Wishing it was correct does not make it so. That's the problem with BushCo, they want something to be true and seem to operate with the idea that just putting it out there makes it so. Of course, a whole lot of people believe that BushCo has nothing but good intentions and if he said something that was wrong, well it could have been true. Geez. Trying to figure out how their slimy little minds operate makes my head spin.

I guess the folk at the White House must have been out of the loop so they made one itsy bitsy little error. C.I.A. doesn't tell them a damn thing even when they ask ever so nicely. Poor dears!
