WASHINGTON, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter on Friday announced he would vote to confirm Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court.

"I intend to vote to support Judge Alito's nomination as associate justice of the Supreme Court," said the Pennsylvania Republican at the conclusion of his committee's confirmation hearing.

Specter, a moderate who supports legalized abortion, announced his support of Alito, a conservative appeals court judge who was grilled closely on his past statements in opposition to a woman's right to an abortion.

Did anyone expect this partisan hack to do anything different?

1. So Specter's not a "Pro-choice Republican" after all!
This should help get him out of office at least.

8. Well, we now know what we have always suspected about..
the "so called" moderate pubs such as Specter and Snowe. When push comes to shove, they will ALWAYS vote in lock step with their party. This is the defining moment for moderate pukes, and we now know without a doubt how they will vote when Roe is on the chopping block.

5. No, I didn't expect anything different from him.
I believe that he truly is pro-choice, but I also believe that he places being a loyal party hack as a higher priority than anything else.

I'm disappoined in him, but not the least bit surprised.

10. Didn't he sort of have to?
Didn't he make a deal with the Republican Caucus that if they would just let him be chairman of the Judicial Committee, he would back the President's nominees? Otherwise, he wouldn't have gotten his dream. Politics. :puke:

12. Even GOPers should know this guy hasn't answered the questions!
I don't understand this. How can we be a nation of laws when we won't answer anything we don't want to? It POs me to see the f*cking "Party of Personal Responsibility" accept the non-answers and lies of this shithead! "Party of Personal Responsibility," my ass!

Hey GOP! How do I explain to my 7-year-old that it's OK to lie and mislead a Senate committee?

16. Then Specter is not "pro-choice"
He supports placing a justice on the SC who spelled out his opposition to 'Roe by refusing to affirm it as "settled law" the way Roberts did. We need to out these "moderate" Republicans as the theocratic ass-holes they are and replace them with legitimate believers in personal liberty. That goes for Chaffee, Snowe, and Collins, too.

I would even vote for pro-life Dems in their place, as there is no difference between the two.

18. Specter
Once and for all this proves he Is no moderate. Specter votes lockstep with Bush despite the
moderate libel. People like him claim to be moderate to voters but actully vote right wing.
