Wicker predicts rebound for Bush, Republicans
Administration touting its accomplishments
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
COLUMBUS - Wicker predicts rebound for Bush, Republicans

U.S. Rep. Roger Wicker says he expects President Bush and the Republican leadership in Congress to rebound from a December marked by budget battles and a fall in public opinion polls.

Congress is poised for some bruising sessions in January and early February, said Wicker, R-Miss., who is in his third term in the U.S. House.
(snip)

The fiasco that was the Harriet Myers nomination to the Supreme Court, a criminal investigation into the staff of Vice President Dick Cheney and Karl Rove, the president's closest adviser, all plagued him. Also, ethics scandals in Congress added to the malaise in Washington.
(snip)

Wicker said Congress will tackle issues of deficit reduction and tax cuts when it returns to work in January. Much of the $40 billion deficit reduction bill rides on cuts to entitlement programs, opposed by Democrats.

8. Reminds me of the time I saw Ken Kesey talk in LA. . .
He said my life would be better, and I'd understand the ways of the world, if I kept two thoughts always in mind:

"Cream," he said, "rises to the top. And some shit floats."

3. Huh...They forgot to mention his party affiliation
Edited on Thu Dec-29-05 05:19 AM by JohnnyRingo
Though it's hard to blame them....The word "Republican" is nowhere to found on his web site:
http://www.house.gov/wicker/welcome.html

Did they ask that he not use it?
Or is he an independant?

on edit:
I found the word a couple times in his bio.
Still....I didn't see any links to the party

14. and, forgot to name who scribed the AP propaganda piece
the subtitle may be a clue: "Administration touting its accomplishments"

oops, they misspelled Harriet's surname in Para. 4

the following is conjecture ... or is it?

Rove: OK, get this to AP so it'll get on the wires ... get me a 'who he' new face unknown Republican congressman as the deliverer of this message ... try to find one that didn't get Abramoff money if possible ... next up, draft a Condi rising star piece ... make it sound like she's untainted by all the scandals ... see if you can find a decent picture of her ... one that doesn't show that evil sneer ... get AP to pimp it, and that's a wrap for today ...

6. Probably
"Rebound" is an open term, though.

Team Bush is at about 35%. It's probable that he will at least rebound to, say 40%. And I think he'll rebound higher. But when, and how high?

The mid-term election is coming up, and the Press will make a Herculean effort to drive the results as close to 50%/50% as it can. Even in 2000 and 2004, it would calibrate its message to keep Bush and his victim as close as possible, to generate phony electoral drama. The Press sells the most papers when the Drama is high, but then everything settles to a nice 50/50 deal.

And you KNOW that if a Hurricane so much as winks at any major Southern landfall location, the area will be assuaged with instant attention from FEMA, and a Republican governor will be dispatched to give away money like a department-store Santa giving away candy canes.

In addition, is there any doubt that the Iraqi government will announce that it will no longer be needing American troops as of, oh, October 1, 2006?

On the other hand, many of the scandals that emerged over the past year are going to be hitting the legal system.

It will be tough to predict, but we can depend on the increasing, deepening distrust of Team Bush to continue.

7. Another "Reverse Robin Hood Republican"....
blaming the deficit on the poor and insistent on cutting their meager social programs to again bolster the rich's stranglehold on the economy. Go figure!

Another piece of crap southern republican who should be targeted for removal from office come November '06.

He's convinced bush and his party are going to rebound and continue to do fantastic things (rob from the poor and give to the rich), huh? Sounds as if he's whistling past the graveyard, if you ask me. What a cretin, the shit hasn't even BEGUN to hit the fan for the GOP. 2006 is going to be the republican's worst nightmare! Douchbag!

11. Who is Wicker and why should we care what he thinks?
Edited on Thu Dec-29-05 09:06 AM by rucky
it amazes me how valued the opinion is of anyone with an R after their name.

BTW, they've created more corporate "entitlements" (that's a loaded term for social programs) than they're destroying in the social realm.

As for the AP: Is it possible to wipe one's ass with a wire service?
