The death from meningitis last week of a Rutherford County inmate is a grim example of the additional oversight that is needed for local jails, the head of the Tennessee chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union said.

Colby Shane Cantrell, 22, had been in the Rutherford County jail nine days for violating his probation when he died from bacterial meningitis. It spread to his brain from an ear infection, an autopsy showed. He had previously been charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended license.

1. This poor kid kept asking them for help.

Apparently they would not get him medical help.

2. Hey, it's getting too expensive to feed and house all those inmates...

I look for more and more "epidemics" to thin out those "criminals."
But it must be balanced with being able to count the inmates for census purposes so that those states can get increased voting representation on the political scene. Oh, yeah, that's another story (see links below)
