Volusia to replace voting machines (a 2nd FL county dumps Diebold)
Diebold will soon be history in Volusia County.

After a nearly five-hour hearing Friday, County Council members voted to replace their Diebold-supported machines with a system made by rival voting-machine-maker Election Systems & Software.

Polk County will face a similar decision next week.

Friday's vote comes days after news surfaced that Leon County's election supervisor allowed computer experts to hack into Diebold machines to change electronic results for mock elections.

1. And ESS is owned by
the brother of the guy that owns Diebold?
Another Republican supporter.
Doesn't seem like they made any progress to me.

3. ES&S - Just As Bad - I Personally Witnessed ES&S Change Votes
I worked as an election clerk in the 2004 general election in Dallas County, Texas.

The ES&S machines were used exclusively.

I personally witnessed the ES&S machines change straight party Democratic votes to straight party Republican votes when several senior citizens called me over for an explanation.

There is no telling how the machine accounted for votes internally since there is no paper trail.

5. If Diebold would have its machines generate paper receipts;
like its atms generate, it would not have these issues even with hacker vulnerabilities. Maybe profit concerns will trump Diebold's injection of politics in its business; which is the dumbest thing in the world a voting machine manufacturer could do.
