Former President Gerald Ford hospitalized

SAN FRANCISCO - Former U.S. President Gerald Ford, 92, was hospitalized for tests, his spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday.

“President Ford was admitted to Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif. He is undergoing medical tests and will be released when they have been completed,” the statement said.

Does anyone else have that Dana Carvey routine in their head right now? It was on SNL when he was doing an impression of Tom Brokaw taping announcements of breaking news of various ways that Gerald Ford could be killed. It was hilarious. A pack of wolves killed him in one. Another bit was taped in swahili just to cover the options. I know I'm in bad taste but I can't help hearing Carvey as Brokaw "Gerald Ford..."

I'll bet it was a nice vase though.


...A short summary: Aaron Tonken, a man who produced many celebrity charity fundraisers got put behind bars last March for stealing money from the charities that he was supposed to be raising money for. He has now written a book that tells where a lot of that money went.

I have not read the book, but ABC's report alone implicated Elizabeth Taylor, Arnold Schwarzenegger and, my favorite story, Gerald Ford.

It seems Ford was up to receive an award from one of the charities that Tonken was organizing.
"According to Tonken, Ford was to be paid a $200,000 personal appearance fee, in addition to a $200,000 contribution made to the Betty Ford Clinic. The former president signed a contract, obtained by ABC News, agreeing to the terms, Tonken said... After all the gifts, perks and payments, Tonken said he had no money left for a fancy plaque, so the Spirit of Giving Award that night was an empty flower vase he found in the hotel."

I saw the video and they really did give the former president an empty vase. Given, every person watching that show thought that it was some kind of expensive crystal. No, it was a cheap vase found in a hotel room.

15. I Spent 4 Hours and Had dinner With

Former President Ford back in 1983 and 84. Ford was in Seattle participating in a fund raiser for the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field. The FR was a celebrity golf event followed up by a dinner that evening held in a hanger at Boeing Field. Ford had a sharp memory as he had remembered me from the 83 event. BTW in 84 Ford on the first whole swung and the ball drifted off into the trees killing a Red Breasted Robin....the SS did not arrest the bird. From 1980-85 I did stinger photo work for AP and was covering the event for them.

I hope the best for him......I kinda feel like I know him....
