Iraq vet pleads guilty in death of daughter, 2
A 21-year-old Longview man pleaded guilty to capital murder Friday in the death of his 2-year-old daughter in April.

Christopher D. Lewis was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum of 40 years before becoming eligible for parole. Lewis, a Marine who fought in Iraq, was charged with capital murder and had faced the death penalty.

His daughter, Krisiauna Calaira Lewis, died April 30 at Children's Medical Center in Dallas after being taken from Longview Regional Medical Center with facial lacerations and a severe head injury. Lewis told police after his arrest that he slammed his daughter against a wall while he was trying to toilet train her at his home, according to police records.

Lewis also was indicted on a charge of aggravated sexual assault. Police records state that Lewis admitted to sexually abusing his daughter.

1. Once we teach these soldier and marines how to be brutal killers,
When we are done with them, do we spend any money on teaching them how to stop being brutal killers?

4. This Stripes piece is about that very topic, published just yesterday
Army researchers saw alcohol misuse rise from 13 percent among soldiers to 21 percent one year after returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, underscoring the continuing stress of deployment for some troops.

In post-deployment reassessment data completed in July, researchers also saw soldiers with anger and aggression issues increase from 11 percent to 22 percent after deployment. Those planning to divorce their spouse rose from 9 percent to 15 percent after time spent in the combat zone.

And that’s just the start of the problems, according to military family support groups.

The US has a societal shit-storm on the way courtesy of three years of war, and Bush's response is to defund VA hospitals.

Then, MSNBC tells us Bush's ratings are going back up. Just another lie.

6. All wars create such problems. Now, the questions:
Are these problems worth it? No

Is there proper funding to treat such problems? No

7. By the way, I was sent to Baumholder a few years ago. I would hate to see
the number of wives who are either contemplating divorce and/or having affairs there and other such posts.

9. Lots of families are splitting up now. It's become commonplace.
Soldiers are returning to find that their wives have been shacking up, or else wives are finding out their husbands have been doing the same thing while deployed.

Since we know war has these negative effects on a society--divorces, family break-up, physical/emotional abuse, unemployment, drug addiction, educational degradation, general unlawfulness, etc--and since we know our national debt is around $8 trillion and so can't sustain programs to remedy these problems, America's future is gloomy indeed.

5. That poor child...
a life of abuse and then murdered.

If soldiers have to die in war I can't help thinking it's too bad he couldn't have taken the place of someone who died that would have loved and protected their child.

8. Bush has also cut DoD social services, to include counselors
If an organization's mission is (truly) humanitarian, Bush has defunded it.

10. 5 days
He had "custody" of her for five freaking days before killing her? I'll bet he fought for that "custody" too. Fuck him. He should have died in Iraq.

Trudy Taylor: Democrats continue to dither about war on terror

By TRUDY TAYLOR

Saturday, December 03, 2005

The wild accusations tumbling from the mouths of Democrats concerning President Bush and the terror war run the gamut, including one that he somehow coerced former Secretary of State Colin Powell to lie before the U.N. concerning Iraq's WMD's, using “doped" intel.

Did Bush lie about intelligence concerning Iraq? The evidence cited by a San Diego Union-Tribune editorial says no: “The bipartisan Silberman-Robb commission reported that it found no evidence of political pressure by the Bush administration or the president to falsify or distort intelligence in Iraq.”

Of course we are supposed to forget that in 2003 leading Democrats had access to the same intel the White House and No. 10 Downing Street were assessing, yet wanted to do exactly nothing about Saddam Hussein. The foot-dragging of this wishy-washy party, along with sundry international groups who had their collective fingers in the U.N. Oil-for-Food program pie allowed Hussein more than enough time to hide or export the actual quantities of smallpox and anthrax we know for a fact he possessed and never verifiably destroyed after Gulf War I.

We also now know Hussein had nuclear production sites ready to bring up to operational status once Mr. Hans (see no evil, find no weapons) Blix certified Iraq weapons-free, leaving the U.N. to lift Iraqi sanctions. At that point, untold hundreds of millions of petrodollars could have been funneled into Hussein's nuclear program. Yet, perversely, at the same time that certain countries in Western Europe and the Middle East were lollygagging over regime change, intelligence was poring in that weapons of mass destruction existed and various politicians, including many Democrats, were demanding that Hussein be dealt with immediately. Remember, President Bush never said Hussein was an “imminent threat" – that was said by U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va.

lie after fabricated lie here:

I read the paper and found this (among several other nasty op eds) and am asking DUers to read and rebut her specious bullshit. The reason so much of our country is ignorant of the truth is that shit like this is printed and left to fester. Mahalo.
