Florida schoolbus racism scandal

A school bus service in Florida has refused to carry Iraqi and Afghani refugee students for a second time in a week.

Some 27 students aged between 10 and 14 were abandoned outside Jacksonville last Wednesday, over eight miles away from home.

A substitute Duval County school bus driver – “Mrs Boston” – singled out hijab-wearing girls and “foreign-looking” boys, ordering them to get out.

3. Anyone who has lived in Jax
(as I did for 8 years) will find this story oh-so-familiar. What a racist, backwards bunch of people running things there! If you are not a WASP in North Florida, woe unto you. I left Florida for Michigan in 1995, it's sad to see that things haven't changed in all these years. I hate to paint with a broad brush, but man, Jax is something else. Remember what happened there in Nov. 2000 in the African-American precincts?

Jeebus.

ACLU joins Islamic group urging Jacksonville bus investigation

The Associated Press

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --

The American Civil Liberties Union joined an Islamic group in urging an investigation of two incidents in which about 20 Muslim students were allegedly removed from a Duval County school bus and not allowed to board another.

ACLU officials said Saturday they were backing the Council on American-Islamic Relations' request. They allege that two different First Student bus drivers singled out Muslim students Wednesday and again Friday.
