Arbour calls for investigation of Iraq prisoner abuses
The UN's high commissioner for human rights has called for an international investigation into the condition of detainees in Iraq.

Louise Arbour, a former judge on the Supreme Court, issued the call on Friday. She cited a report on Tuesday indicating that more than 170 prisoners had been found in a prison in Baghdad, where they had been starved and tortured.

She said the large number of detainees is a problem, and so are the lengthy internments for security reasons without a judge assessing the situation.

Arbour said there are reports from Mosul and other cities claiming that people are being held in prison even though judges have ordered their release.

(Although this article has focused in on the 170 prisoners, one must not forget that Louise Arbour was directly responsible for bringing war crime charges against Milosevic and forcing him before the Hague. If she is able to force an investigation of prisoner abuse, Abu Graib, the secret prisons, etc, would also become part of the investigation, I have no doubt.)

I don't understand what you mean? Jump what gun? You don't want an international investigation?

3. It is her job to smack down rogue nations. Why would the UN sit
around and let Cheney put torture in the American Army legally and not say a word?

This diminshes the whole world and the fight for human rights across the board.
