Council Members Receive Threats Over Anti-War Resolution
E-Mails, Phone Calls Forwarded To Police

UPDATED: 8:48 pm PST November 4, 2005

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Hundreds of threatening e-mails have been sent to Sacramento City Council members since Tuesday, when the council passed a highly controversial, anti-war resolution.

The e-mails are very personal in their attacks, according to council members.

"They start with a four-letter word. They don't end with it. They start with it. They're so angry at us," said Councilman Ray Tretheway.

Other comments that are made in the e-mails include: "you should be hanged" and "hope your children are beheaded."

snip...
The e-mails were sparked by a resolution -- passed by the council -- that calls on President George W. Bush to withdraw troops from Iraq. Although council members are holding on to all their e-mails, many said they've yet to feel threatened by them.

1. Are the idiots sending emails in between tours in Iraq or what?
Otherwise, I assume they must be emailing from Iraq.

:sarcasm:

2. It's easy to send an e-mail
it's a lot harder to intimidate someone to their faces.

Cowards.

3. Sounds like Jim-Rob activists had a three martini lunch
and a woody. Those fucks need to be investigated by DHS and put on a watch list for domestic terrorism.

4. That's because everyone knows that war is peace.
Not to mention FUN. Good Americans love war. Plus, just think of what we're accomplishing in Iraq, etc. The goodwill we're spreading. The democracy we're CREATING. The lives we're SAVING. The friends we're making. The economic strength we're building. It just makes common sense that what we're doing with our jets and our bombs is good for the whole world. Everybody is benefiting. You just can't argue with good republican values. Keep those emails coming! Your kids will thank you. And so will the corporations. Now if you really want to do the country a favor, march down to the closest recruiter's office and enlist.

5. I remember back when our council passed one against the invasion
We're a pretty small town, and I thought it was great at first.

Then someone asked whether it was the role of local government to do such a thing ... I'm still not sure.

Although, it should be repeated these threats are absurd and cowardly.

11. Well, as far as the role of local government
to pass an anti-war resolution, remember that the ones who serve in Iraq or any other country where we are fighting come from local populations. I would think that when a small town loses one of it's own to war, it becomes very personal, and the council members are showing their feelings as human beings.

They don't want other members of their community to suffer the same fate, and can see the complete failure that Bush's illegal invasion has been. Maybe it's a gesture born of frustration, and just a way to show how they feel. The threats are typical of right-wing cowards, who have no qualms about sending others to fight while they avoid service.
