Conservatives May Sit Out N.J. Gov Race
TRENTON, N.J. - Conservative Republican Dave Pawson agrees with GOP candidate Doug Forrester on most issues in the New Jersey governor's race. But when Pawson goes into the voting booth next Tuesday, he won't pull the lever for Forrester — or for the other guy, either.

Forrester's increasingly vocal support of abortion rights in his campaign against liberal Democratic Sen. Jon Corzine has so alienated Republican conservatives that they are threatening to withhold their votes on Election Day.

"People like myself will not click Corzine or Forrester," said Pawson, a 54-year-old public school teacher. "They'll vote for the Assembly candidates and their local races but skip the governor's race."

2. bodes well for a Giuliani or McCain candidacy
And if either of them flip on abortion - there goes the middle.

7. As far as I'm concerned
There's a party of Democracy and there's a party of theocracy. Any reasonable voices on the right get the shit kicked out of them by the theocrats.

3. OK. Stay home.
Fine by me. Corzine gets the governorship, which he probably would have won anyway, appoints a replacement in the Senate (probably Pallone), and the race for 2006 is on.

In N.J., I'm more concerned about the 2006 Senate race anyway, is what I guess I'm saying. Kean could pull off a win, and we need every seat we can get.

6. Fine by me, too. That much less of a turnout for the enemy.

Anytime the bad guys decide to pout and sit it out (hint: MORE spoiled-brat Crybaby Conservatives) the better for us. It'll be OUR voters who stay in the game and OUR voters who'll carry the day.

He wants to pout and sit it out? FINE! Buh-BYE!!! Just makes our job that much easier.

This is WAR, folks. Not fun, LOTS of extra work, and sometimes you get dirty. I'm not exactly in love with it, either, but if that's the game, then that's the game - and I want to WIN that game.

WHATEVER IT TAKES.

GET USED TO IT.

BTW - while you guys are staying in the game for Corzine, we out here in California will be kicking the daylights out of Der Gropenazi (and his pet ballot initiatives, that are all clearly failing at the moment). :toast:

11. I'm pessimistic about NJ's Senate chances for the Dems in 2006
Contrary to public opinion outside the state, New Jersey is not really a "Blue" state; simply a state whose Democratic party is more visible than the its Republican party. There's no statewide party loyalty to Democratic candidates, by any means. Two terms of Christie Todd Whitman, for example.

12. If we're going to take back the Senate...
the three things that worry me most are keeping a seat in New Jersey and picking up seats in Missouri and Tennessee. All of those are going to be very tight. I wouldn't say I'm pessimistic, but I would say it's a bit of a toss up.

14. As if Christine Todd Whitman bears any resemblance to the
lunatic theocrats currently locking a strangle-hold on the GOP!

There's a reason the woman was forced out of the EPA, you know? There's also a reason why conservative Forrester cannot run jack shit in New Jersey on a pro-life position: he's obviously calculated that shit-canning the theocrats in Jersey is much more electorally feasible than alienating the moderate Republicans. How's that look for Senate chances? Who knows. I think you're right that the GOP is much more likely to pick up a seat there than in, say, New York. But any GOP Senator from New Jersey would have to deal quite delicately with the nutty contingent of religioso's if he or she wants a second term, that's for sure.

4. So you won't vote in the Governor's race?
Doesn't that mean Corzine will win, and you still don't have an anti-abortion candidate? Gee, what a shame. Better luck next election! <not!>

So sorry, guys, but you can't take your ball and go home if the ball isn't yours...

5. Good. These people should stay at home, while we govern.
I like it that way. They stay home and go to church, while we run the government.

9. Please do this. They did the same thing in Arkansas in 2002...
and that locked up Mark Pryor's victory in the senate.

10. Most of them will still vote for Forrester regardless of what they say.
I have heard this bogus lament too many times, for too many years, from too many conservative republicans to believe that the shittoheads and other Reich wingers all of a sudden will not vote republican come election day. Their hatred far out weighs any other principles, beliefs, or values they may have. After all, if they had enough intelligence and integrity to make an informed decision, they wouldn't be shittoheads. They will vote.

17. You're right!
They do it to discourage higher voter turnout. Corzine will win this one big.

15. Their #1 issue is ABORTION
They don't give a damn about the LIVING. They are KILLING the living, both figuratively (middle class and poor) and literally (soldiers and civilians in Iraq), and all they can think of are FETUSES.

16. Ya know

If these people put as much energy into helping those here on earth as they do in helping zygotes our world would be in a heck of a lot better shape.

Wonder if the fetus cares they have warriors working on their behalf?
