All the president's men and women are getting a little worn out

By DONNA CASSATA
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) — It's a nightmare prospect that Republicans have trouble fathoming: legal problems that could drive some of the president's most powerful aides from office.

A special prosecutor and grand jury are closing in on a deadline to decide whether to lodge criminal complaints against presidential adviser Karl Rove and White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby in the outing of covert CIA officer Valerie Plame, the wife of Iraq war critic Joseph Wilson.

If it comes to pass, administration officials and GOP consultants expect President Bush to turn to a few individuals to fill any void in his inner circle.

Among the candidates are go-to Republicans whom Bush trusts, including Ed Gillespie, Ken Mehlman and Karen Hughes; former lawmakers Rob Portman and Vin Weber; and those who could be promoted from within, such as Dan Bartlett, Joshua Bolten and Joe Hagin.

MSM got a little courage to cover the implosion, but still does it from BFEE's POV. Aren't you glad it wasn't a blue dress?
The problem is , the entire MSM is "bush's brain" - hence the lack of thought in all this.

15. If George appoints Jeb to replace Dick...no, I can't deal with that
From the article (last paragraph):

"So Bush's choice to replace his running mate would tip the president's hand on his preference for 2008. Florida governor and first brother, Jeb Bush?"

And here I was all concerned about Bush appointing Rice when Cheney is indicted, or when his batteries finally run out.

30. Wouldn't that beat all? I hadn't figured they would bring forth the real
Nazi (the clever one) until a bit of this had blown over, and had been laid at the door of the War Democrat Diebold was to install in '08. Thence to the real coup in '12 (driven by the food riots, the antiwar demos, the financial meltdown, and assorted "terrorist" incidents that whoever they annoint for '08 is going to inherit).

Well, I hope he chooses Jeb. Then maybe the American people can have it out with these characters sooner rather than later.

Friends, Romans and countrymen, here's what I have to say to you: Throw Diebold and ES&S election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor' NOW!

20. I was always amazed at what Clinton accomplished......
with all those investigations and impeachment proceedings going on. I can only wonder what more he could have done if he were not encumbered.
I just have to laugh at the GOP. I mean REALLY! Is Dubya the best you can do? He was a sorry ass excuse for a president last term and he is an even sorrier ass excuse now.
I can't wait to see HIS presidential library...one copy of "My Pet Goat" and a daily briefing entitled "Al Quada determined to attack" in the corner of a basement ought to do. As far as his legacy, only time will tell, but I think it will be on of the worsted.

21. Check out this quote:
"...a prospect that Repubs have trouble fathoming".

THEY ALL KNOW Bush and his cronies have been looting the treasury since the day they walked into the White House.

They probably know more things that we don't even know about yet. So what's the shocker? That they're getting caught?

That quote told me everything I needed to know about the Repugs.

24. how has Andrew Card escaped Plamegate so far?
He didn't know about the goings-on at the Cabal of which he's part?

"White House chief of staff Andrew Card has been on the job since January 2001, a mark of longevity for Bush compared with Presidents Reagan and Clinton, who each had four chiefs of staff through two terms. Even Bush's father, George H.W. Bush, had three chiefs of staff in four years as president."

40. Look at history, and think about our situation now
Richard Nixon was still relatively popular when he had to fire at least one person (Elliot Richardson?) in the chain of command at the Justice Department until he found someone (Robert Bork, ugh) who would fire Archibald Cox, the special prosecutor who was on his tail. That was an historical travesty of justice.

Bush isn't nearly as popular so he couldn't get away with firing Fitzgerald on a similar basis, but there's more in play here. There's a lot more skepticism about crooks in office now and this is Nixon's contribution to the game.

Bush can't get rid of Fitzgerald. Doing so would absolutely seal his fate for the worse. 24 hour news television, the immediacy of it all ... there's just no way that would work. In the old days we had to wait until the 6:30 news or until the next morning. There was far less transparancy in those days. In this time, thank goodness, such a move would be instantly (literally) understood for the political hack move that it was.

38. Did you all see the last sentence OMG!!! Jeb Bush for Prez
And what if the unthinkable happens and Cheney is indicted?

Cheney has said he is not interested in pursuing the Republican nomination for president in 2008. So Bush's choice to replace his running mate would tip the president's hand on his preference for 2008. Florida governor and first brother, Jeb Bush?

So that the Bush's can rule for another 8 years!!!

Even the News Media plays to the dynasty even now!!!

but the do feel disaster is in the background!!!

Kinda like the army hearing the enemy shout and see the lights of their camp!!!

After Kennedy named Robert as AG, didn't Congress pass a law preventing the president from naming relatives to the cabinet or something?
