Dean Slams Bush's Policies on Mexico (in Mexico today)
http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051017/API/510171259

Howard Dean traveled south of the border to meet with Mexico's presidential contenders Monday, and lashed out at the Bush administration's policies on Mexico.

Dean, the Democratic National Committee chairman, claimed President Bush "turned his back on Mexico" after it refused to support the Iraq war.

The former Vermont governor told The Associated Press in an interview that "a strong Mexico and a strong Mexican economy fixes a lot of the problems between the two countries, particularly immigration and narcotics."

"We ought to have a partnership with Mexico" Dean said. "President Bush has lost ground in the relationship."

White House officials referred calls for comment to the Republican National Committee, which couldn't immediately be reached.

"Traveling with Dean were Reps. Xavier Becerra of California and Raul Grijalva, whose Arizona district includes hundreds of miles of Mexico-U.S. border."

1. Go Dean !!!
This is what the Democratic Party Chairman is suppose to do...Raise issues that all Democrats can use in the upcoming election.

Why did we NOT nominate this guy for our Presidential Candidate in 2004 still mystifies me...

and I could write many useless unread paragraphs on that subject.

What gives me cause for encouragement (and there are very few in the US of A today)is that he is now ideally situated to get OUR shots off and bring down the crooked dealers, pretty much impervious to the likes of indictee Tom DeLay, indictee Jack Abramoff, Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, the Swift Boat Bagmen and the like... especially when the good doctor picks his shots carefully without overplaying our hand.

PLUS he just made some strong points for us with the Latino community.

7. I know, sour grapes and all that...
...and he is doing a fine job as DNC Chair. Perhaps it was all for the best, but my heart says otherwise...

2. He is right, a stronger Mexico so they can take care of their own
and have a stronger economy by which they could live and hopefully our economy would do better with both countries having economy which support their nation's workers.

4. Bush's migrant workers' permit = virtual slavery
Vincinte Fox isn't doing his job. I don't see how working Mexicans for less than $5 a day in squalid conditions is suppose to help them. It would be alot easier to make greater economic opportunities available in Mexico that's actually controlled by Mexicans themselves. American fiscal conservatives just want a permanent underclass of people whom they can easily abuse.

6. Frankly to blame conservatives....
On this one might be stretching it a bit. While the relationship between the United States and Mexico hasn't always been a symbiotic one, Mexico isn't just in the position that it is in just because of enterprising foreigners. There have been numerous cases of corrupt mexicans squandering and plundering the resources of Mexico. Mexicans are taxed at a higher rate than us but rarely see the benefits of such taxes. For all of us faults and missteps I think Vicenete Fox has done a decent job of relinquishing the strangle hold that the PRI had on the country.
