Texas Congressman Kevin Brady (R) Arrested
October 11, 2005, 5:19 AM EDT

DALLAS -- U.S. Rep Kevin Brady was arrested and charged with driving under the influence while in South Dakota, according to a published report.

The Texas Republican was pulled over by a state trooper Friday night for a problem with the tail lights of his vehicle, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Authorities were waiting for results of a blood test to determine Brady's blood-alcohol level at the time of the arrest. The legal limit in South Dakota is 0.08.

If convicted of the misdemeanor charge, Brady faces up to $1,000 fine and a year in jail, Clay County Sheriff Andy Howe said.

What is it with these people? 50 years old and a US Rep and you can't afford a cab when you're too drunk to drive?

They pose like they have moral character and pull the jesus card, and "family values" bullshit to appeal to other bullies, and so no one QUESTIONS their lack of character! Republican neocon Christians are really just sickening, perverted, crass bullies with no morality in them whatsoever.

16. Quote from Brady who won't return funds from DeLay
"While U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady, R-The Woodlands, did not receive money from TRMPAC, he did receive $10,000 from ARMPAC in 2003.
"I'm certainly not going to return it," Brady said Thursday. "Tom DeLay has been fighting for everything important: less taxes, stronger national security and to protect our families. He has helped us restore sales tax deductions to Texans, and he played a key role in getting federal road dollar."

17. Why the hell is drunk driving a misdemeanor?
Why isn't it considered a felony? Every drunk who gets behind the wheel, aims the car, and fires the ignition is committing an assault on society with a deadly weapon.

22. $10,000 from ARMPAC
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/metropolitan/mack/2836522

The nearly 100 Republican congressional candidates who took ARMPAC money "have a responsibility to clear the air," DCCC communications director Greg Speed said. "Republican candidates should immediately return Tom DeLay's money or explain why they condone behavior that has caused the House ethics committee to sanction him."

DeLay's people say this is simply an effort by Democratic candidates to draw attention to their races and that there is no connection between ARMPAC and the recent developments.

Fifteen congressional candidates in Texas have received money from ARMPAC, including U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady, who got $10,000; Ted Poe, running for the 2nd U.S. Congressional District, who received $5,000; and Arlette Molina, running for the 9th Congressional District, who got $1,000.

30. Not really.....anybody can be a drunk
Alcohol reduces "fear" of "oneself" and reality in general, while bolstering a false sense of "self righteousness" and aggression.....
inner insecurity is all it takes.....take it from one who KNOWS.

Even if he's forced to resign or jailed he'll just be replaced by a younger, Bush-loving, right-wing congressman.

41. Good news
Well, it's certainly bad news that he was driving drunk, but it's good news the self-righteous hypocrite got busted.

I really can't stand that guy; politically, he's just your standard unremarkable Bush-whoring Repug. I moved 150 miles west and he's still my Congressman! Due to Delay's redistricting, this guy's super-gerrymandered district includes my hometown of Orange, the super-rich community of The Woodlands, and my current college "home" Huntsville. If you know this area, you know how different these places are from each other.

Well, I hope this sticks on Brady and we're relieved of him sometime soon. But yeah, as an above poster pointed out, he's very likely to be replaced with just a younger, possibly more obnoxious Shrub supporter.

44. the story answers the most obvious question
in case anyone else was wondering, like me, what was he doing in South Dakota?

It was homecoming weekend at the University of South Dakota, so officers were on the alert for driving violations including manning sobriety checkpoints.

Brady, 50, is a graduate of the University of South Dakota.

his throat, beat him to a pulp and that film crew and the blond...

Oh, wait, got him all mixed up with that black guy in New Orleans.

Brady probably didn't realize how strict the laws have become here in the midwest on drinking and driving. After all in Texas if you're a Republican lege, practically ain't nuthin illegal.

That's why Delay is SO sunk for example. If Texans are drawing the line, he had to be way out of bounds. But then in Texas, you can do time and still run for office.

47. I imagine there must be many, many Republican politicians
hitting the bottle these days.

The pressure of their own crimes being unrolled, and for some others the realization that they are indeed in the middle of a corrupt and criminal party structure.

When blood is on the hands, a bottle might not be too far behind.

But take a taxi for godsake! D'ya want yet MORE blood on your hands?
