Whistle-blower safeguard bill called lacking (Sibel Edmonds and NSWBC)

Article notes that the Dems are very frustrated with the lack of protections to security whistleblowers in this bill that's going to the House floor later. They are the ones that we should be most concerned about, as they are the ones that have been on the line for us most lately and the most covered up (aka Sibel Edmonds, Bunnatine Greenhouse, etc.)

Whistle-blower safeguard bill called lacking

WASHINGTON - A House committee approved legislation last week that would broaden protections for government employees who disclose credible evidence of mismanagement, waste or abuse of authority.

The whistle-blower measure, drafted by Rep. Todd Platts, R-Pa., and sent to the full House for a vote, was amended to add protections for baggage screeners and other Transport Security Administration workers not covered by previous laws. But Democratic committee members said these amendments were not enough.

Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., the ranking Democrat on the committee, said the bill lacks protections for whistleblowers in the intelligence committee and those employed as federal contract-employees.

Waxman said that the case of Sibel Edmonds, an FBI translator who was fired after reporting that the agency has purposely lagged behind in translating documents, demonstrates the need for more protections for those entrusted with national security.

At the bottom of the article, it uses the same line that buttons I've done on Cafepress.com have on them, and Democratic Rep Carolyn Maloney throws her own twist on it.

"It has been said that the truth shall set you free, but the current administration has taken this old adage to a whole new level," Maloney said. "The truth will certainly set you free because you will get fired."
