Voting machine problems noted during primary
By Jerry Cornfield
Herald Writer

EVERETT, WA - September's primary ran smoothly but not flawlessly for election officials.

Unlike last fall, there are no recounts and no one discovered trays of uncounted ballots.

Some voters did experience frustration due to temporary malfunctions in their voting machines.

In Lynnwood, when Becky Janecke pushed the stylus on the bubble next to the name of mayoral candidate Mike McKinnon, the device registered Don Gough as her selection. She tried five more times without success before summoning the polling place supervisor.

"At that point, I'd have felt better if she had moved me to another machine or closed it down," she said. "She did not close that machine down, and that disturbed me."

It took five more attempts before the machine worked and she was able to select McKinnon.

2. Shut up and vote, from the county auditor:
From the article:
"We don't let voters vote on machines that are not accurately registering their votes," Terwilliger said.
(snip)
He said this after being told people couldn't get their machines to work, correctly, and the machines were left in play.

Don't tell me, I can guess: he's a Republican.

Also, from the article:
In Lake Stevens, Garland Connor could not select the Democratic Party because there was no bubble to tap. Aided by a poll worker, he also needed several tries to make it work.(snip)

3. This happened ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
Anybody that thinks george boosh was fairly elected has their head in the sand.

John Kerry IS the actual "elected" president of the US. THAT is who the majority voted for, by a huge majority.

4. Unbelievable
We really should go to optical scan so that there are paper ballots in case a hand count is needed.

6. Tabulation people
It seems most people have forgotten that the chicannery happens at the tabulation centers where majority leaders are "flipped" if the majority is a Dem.There needs to be better security at the county and state tabulation centers.

7. Ah, the magic 5 default to the other candidate
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 07:24 PM by MissWaverly
this is what I saw in Baltimore, MD, when I tried to vote for Kerry,
the machine defaulted to George Bush 5 times, and I showed both a
driver's license and a voter registration card so I could be validated
but the machine was/is not capable of valid operation.
