Ukraine's Orange Revolution is in tatters after the country's former prime minister delivered a stinging broadside against President Viktor Yushchenko, alleging that the Government was riddled by corruption.

The devastating attack by Yulia Timoshenko, delivered on national television, dashed hopes of resolving a political crisis that exploded last weekend when top officials began to resign in protest over infighting and alleged graft within the administration.

She said Mr Poroshenko had set up a rival government that profited from illegal deals and corruption and that had blocked her from carrying out crucial economic reforms. "I never had the full power or freedom to implement the concepts I wanted to implement," she said.

I always got the impression she said what she thought needed to be said, and only backed Yushchenko because she thought he could win.

She was probably the main impetus behind the spontaneous outpouring of students: of course, having the majority bused in, tents and food organized, even with entertainment and a sound system ... but all completely spontaneous.

I volunteer-translated her words for a non-profit putting together press packets. I never believed them for a moment.
