Many procedures canceled, rescheduled

Saturday, September 10, 2005

...On Thursday, clinics were told they had to comply immediately following a federal judge's late-afternoon ruling upholding a law that requires anyone seeking an abortion to meet face to face with a doctor at least 24 hours beforehand.

A 16-year-old rape victim, who traveled from Akron with her mother, was among those having to forgo their procedures Friday at Preterm in Cleveland, said Linda Jane, the clinic's director of development and communications...

Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro(running for governor) opposed a two-week delay of what he called "these important pro-life protections."

His motion, filed on behalf of Gov. Bob Taft, called clinics' predictions of scheduling and other problems "either entirely speculative" or ones "the clinics created by doing nothing" since the law was passed more than seven years ago...

Friday, September 09, 2005

Columbus - A federal judge determined Thursday that a 7-year-old Ohio law imposing new restrictions on minors and adults seeking abortions is constitutional and takes effect immediately.

Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro(running for governor), who defended the law, praised the ruling as a "victory for the unborn."

Cincinnati attorney Al Gerhardstein, who argued against the law, deemed it the latest assault on the rights of Ohio women...

The case centers on a 1998 law signed by then-Gov. George Voinovich...

3. To hell with women, save those fetuses.
Republican disclaimer: May not apply to fetuses born during major disasters, or other unexpected events. May be negated if a rich woman decided she needs an abortion for her mental health. The use of rusty coat hangers, back alley abortionists and falls down stairs are exempt from this ruling. :sarcasm:

6. and that is IMO the BIGGEST Hypocrisy of all....
they want to force women to have babies they don't want, can't afford, etc but they disappear after that baby is born. They don't want the gov to help them much either so they push through "Welfare Reform" and cut back on assistance for the poor.. and they have the brassies to call themselves "christians"... pfft... more hypocrisy.

(Short related story) My sort of fundie aunt (married to a VERY fundie Uncle) volunteered for a while at a pro-life "clinic". She told my pro-choice step-mother when they went down to visit them how they would give the mother a crib, some infant clothes, diapers, formula, etc to get them started with their baby.

My step-mother (a retired HS teacher) very nicely then asked her, "Do you help as the child is growing up as well?" My Aunt answered, "Well, no, we just offer help so they'll be able to keep the baby and not have an abortion." "Oh, says my step-mother, ever so sweetly, "and who takes care of this 'baby' as it grows to be a TEEN? Who pays for childcare so the mother can work? Who buys it food, clothing, etc all the REST of it's young life? Social Services has been cut back drastically now so WHO helps them AFTER the babty is born?" Apparently my step-mother got her thinking... she no longer volunteers there.

5. 1. Restrict access to abortions,
2. The abortion rate goes down
3. They announce it to the media and congratulate themselves on the decline in the abortion rate.
4. Design another restriction.

Its the "shrink it till you can drown it in the bathtub" theme and we all saw how deadly that is and how well it worked in the past two weeks...
