Spraggins said the wire, also known as concertina, is needed because it is impossible to patrol the 60 miles from one end Harrison County to the other and will help control gaps where people are slipping through to go into the beach areas. It goes up fast, should only be in place a few weeks and will go down fast as well.

When Lynn Bauer drove along Railroad Avenue in Long Beach on Friday morning, she was shocked to see a fence crew based out of Lumberton laying the wire.

"My first thought was that it's meant to keep us out," Bauer said.

Bauer and her husband, Al, have been driving to their Mills Avenue home, south of the railroad tracks since Katrina hit, to salvage what they can.

The water came up three feet in their home.

When Lynn Bauer saw the razor wire, she said she was hurt. It reminded her of a concentration camp.

That's the way these people think. We the people are not rational, mature or of good enough moral character to be trusted to make the right decisions about where to go or not go, nor are we able to follow instructions and do what authorities ask of us. No, we have to be controlled by fences, machine guns, razor wire.

That wire and installing it must have cost plenty, so if their rationale is the old repub excuse that people would be getting hurt and suing, what about those who get tangled up in their razor wire traps, like children or animals?

private beaches and private clubs, all of which based their membership on class and race, which often do go hand-in-hand.

If the American people ever decide to ditch the barbarism of capitalism, which they are getting plenty of thanks to George Bush, perhaps they will choose the humanism of socialism and ditch the elites in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico.
