Guardsmen Greeted With Applause, Anger

NEW ORLEANS - Four days after Hurricane Katrina struck, the National Guard arrived in force Friday with food, water and weapons, churning through the floodwaters in a vast truck convoy with orders to retake the streets and bring relief to the suffering.

"The cavalry is and will continue to arrive," said Lt. Gen. Steven Blum of the National Guard.

At the New Orleans Convention Center, some of the thousands of storm victims awaiting their deliverance applauded, threw their hands heavenward and screamed, "Thank you, Jesus!" as the camouflage-green trucks and hundreds of soldiers arrived in this increasingly desperate and lawless city.

"Lord, I thank you for getting us out of here," said Leschia Radford.

But there was also anger and profane catcalls.

"Hell no, I'm not glad to see them. They should have been here days ago. I ain't glad to see 'em. I'll be glad when 100 buses show up," said 46-year-old Michael Levy, whose words were echoed by those around him yelling, "Hell, yeah! Hell yeah!"

1. Chimp has done it, managed to get people pissed off at the kids at the
very bottom of the pecking order who would have been there before the hurricane even hit, had they been given orders to so do.

The one who needs to hear the complaints is the head nitwit in charge, frankly, but he is too chickenshit to go where the need is greatest.

2. Absolutely. Many of the NG are fresh from Iraq.
I'm glad that not everyone is being angry at them.. they have no choice in the matter on when they showed up, and it sounded like they were held back for a few days for SOME reason. I'm just glad that there is some help there.

3. Held back?
Bush delayed aid until he could show up for his photo ops, and it will get out. Nothing worse than American women with crying babies -who are starving to death.

5. God, I hope he/Rove/Brown/FEMA didn't do that...
... thinking they could sync the relief w/ his visit, to give the appearance that * is the great savior.

7. Can you think of another plausible reason
that the stranded people went four days w/o water and food when supplies and volunteers were held at the stateline prior to whistle ass' arrival?
